Not really sure how you would classify a Twiglet.

No potato, but is it still a crisp?

    How about mini cheddars?
    Biscuits or crisps?

    Any other genre hopping snacks?

No. Neither are corn snacks, like Doritos.

Pringles are still rice based in the US I think…. They tried it here in around 2010 as a way of skipping vat, but sales dropped as the recipe is far worse.

Generally as far as I away any ‘crisp’ style snack that says no vat is generally not a crisp.

Horrid things. They taste like they’ve been dipped in marmite, which is equally horrid.

2nd only to Bombay mix on the scale of disgusting snacks.

The entire world supply should be thrown down a bottomless pit.

    Are Twiglets crisps?

Absolutely not. Crisps are wondrous, necessary foodstuffs to support & maintain lifeforce. Twigshits are the food of the devil.

Twiglets are snacks. Yummy savoury snacks. Along with Monster Munch, Nik Naks, Scampi Fries, Frazzles… 😋

    No.

Crisps are sliced root vegetables, potatoes still being the king, twiglets are fossilised turds.

Just having some with my lunch – does anyone else have a thing where you eat all the broken ones first then finish off the whole ones?

And whatever happened to the extra long Twiglets you used to get in tubes at Xmas? Yes they still sell the tubes but they’ve just got the normal ones inside.

Twiglet – savoury snack. The way to make a twiglet even better than it already it….dip it in Marmite.

    Are Twiglets crisps?

While the world is full of incredible things that most definitely are crisps, why would anyone even want to find out?

I’d say that as well as being satans own chugnuts, they are technically a savoury snack. But that then pits them against other savoury snacks that aren’t technically crisps, such as Disco’s, cheesy quavers, wotsits, chipsticks and the king of them all… monster munch

So I still can’t see a reason why anyone would eat twiglets

Twiglets are a “snack” but not the kind of snack I want to eat.

Properchips Lentil Chips, however, are a very different proposition.

The tubs have “mini” Twiglets inside. Probably stopped putting the old “normal” length ones inside because they used to break up.

Personally, I think Twiglets have been dumbed down for the modern palate.
Just not Marmitey enough for me.

I’ve yet to see anyone categorically state what constitutes a crisp and hence why a Twiglet falls outside of the classification.

Yes, but I am not 5 years old so I don’t call things “snacks” – quite happy to file them under the umbrella term “crisps” and have done with it 😂

    etc

very handy thread this, for indentifying wrong-uns, whose opinions on all matters can thus be safely ignored 😃

As for what “crisps” are… choose any sensible definition, and Twiglets won’t fit… what they’re made from, how they’re made, what shape they are… pick any… Twiglets are not crisps.

They are definitely not crisps. I’m not even sure that should be allowed to be called a foodstuff.

Nibbly Bits is the generic term for crisps/peanuts/twiglets/cheese balls etc! As in… “have you put out the nibbly bits, they’ll be here in 5 minutes”! 🙂

And Twiglets – bloody marvelous things – made even better by me being the only one in our house that eats them!

Twiglets seem very divisive, personally I think they are superior to crisps.

What do HMRC class them as for VAT purposes? The correct legal definition will be the opposite.

(See Jaffa Cakes and giant marshmallows for precedent)

Its really very simple – on the basis that crisps taste nice, twiglets are clearly not crisps.

I cannot believe the amount of hate for the glorious Twiglet. You heathens are obviously all doomed to a minging hell of Walkers cheese and onion. Although –

    I miss curry flavoured Twiglets

EDIT: Tangy ones can get in the sea though.

I’ve never seen either of those and I don’t ever want to.

But a cheese and onion pasty tastes nice, but that isn’t crisps, so I’m not sure your reasoning works.

Many things taste nice but are undeniably not crisps.

Are Nik Naks not crisps either then?
Must a crisp be overwhelmingly potato-y in its constitution?

I’d like to see it written down on an official source.

The texture of a twiglet could be described as ‘crisp’, more so than brittle or crunchy.

They are pretzels, but mutant infant reject ginger pretzels. That only a degenerate pervert would consider edible.

And while we’re here, crisps are made from potatoes.

I wonder what Americans call them considering they call crisps potato chips 🤔
