Looking at something on cycle scheme that will be a decent commuter for ~12 miles a day, but that could also use for a one off urban cx race. The commuter bit is more important than the cx bit.

Thepodge has already been incredibly helpful with ideas but the top choice bike (Electra Moto 3i 2017, copper) is like rocking horse poo.

    Any suggestions?

If you can stretch the budget the flat bar Camino looks good

That was only a recommendation because it looked cool.

Can you get a Tripster Ace for that money?

I think this was my overall prefered option, not cool but very practical.

What is an urban cx race?

What is an urban cx race?

I’ll hazard a guess that it involves racing through streets/roads with mud and puddles on them. 😉

    A random, non-branded google-fu link…

If I was sticking to city streets I’d get this Triban from Decathlon:

    https://www.decathlon.co.uk/triban-540-flat-bar-road-bike-tiagra-id_8322798.html

£499, Tiagra equiped, able to take mudguards and rack. Sorted!

    Cyclescheme is Evans, right?

I’m struggling to find anything on their site that competes with http://www.halfords.com/cycling/bikes/hybrid-bikes/boardman-hybrid-team-bike-2016 for spec for £560 before BC discount.

    There’s http://www.evanscycles.com/pinnacle-ramin-1-2017-mountain-bike-EV244137 , but it’s ~12.2Kg, while the Boardman is ~10Kg with a carbon fork.

    Loads do CycleScheme.
NathB – not in stock. Have to order from Holland.

I’ve got that boardman up there ^
With bc and quidco discount it’s even better value. I’ve fitted 35mm tyres and guards, plenty of clearance

That Mile End urban cx looks like a whole ton of fun and it’s local to me too- reckon I’ll give that a go!
