LOLZ
Data from Canada showing delta is both more contagious & more deadly
So, obviously the solution is to relax rules, instigate a free for all (we all know the knuckle draggers have only taken notice of the word 'Freedom Day') and maximise the amount of virus circulating.
Go Britain.
👏🇬🇧🍆💦
quaich its quake but with the scottish ch sound as in loch ( i think - sasanach here)
Its a two handled shallow drinking cup for passing round.
I am obviously naive as I have no idea what queef means 🙂
Went down to the beach for a swim this morning, on the way back a private hire full sized coached was just beginning to disembark. Not a single mask on those I could see inside.
Kind of ironic that we’ll have a ‘world-beating’ number of people staying at home self-isolating on freedom day!
Will they, though?
In my small barbershop, I asked my customers and they have said to stick with the masks (this was my plan but I thought it would be interesting to see what they thought).

Good to hear.
I know no one in the real world who has stated they will refuse to wear a mask when asked, going forwards. A few internet hard men are taking a stance, but that's the Internet for you.
I’ve met them in the real world. In shops. Tend to be the same blokes refusing to give staff room when asked, and standing right up behind whichever unfortunate soul is in front of them in the queue. This is real actual behaviour, not just internet mouthing off. Expect more in the coming days.
Breaking news, Javid has tested positive from a rapid test, awaiting a PCR test... All because he doesn't have enough common sense. Oh dear.
When did he last meet Boris The Butcher in person? This could get interesting. 😆

I've mentioned before but my 17yo daughter is starting to stress about work in the partner owned posh supermarket in the well to do surrey town, doing her door duty and having to ask people to wear masks. There's always been the 'oh sorry, I forgot' and the 'I'm only nipping in' that she's had to challenge and sometimes been given a mouthful by, but in her non-scientific survey it's already getting much worse, more people just ignoring the request and a few more starting to have a go back. At a 17yo, doing her job, people. Don't be that prick.
(her unscientific survey also reveals that it's over entitled middle aged posh people that are the worst. She wouldn't say gammons, she has been heard to say Karen's though)
The management have now said the 'policy' is to ask but then if they refuse don't push it. Unless they get properly abusive, in which case Fred the security guard who sits ar a little booth just inside the door is happy to add his opinion.
Even Fred could do with the law backing him up in the next few days. And more importantly, clear messaging from ministers, not just “Boffins”.
I my well to do Surrey Town the older folk are still mask wearing around town but there is a definite move amongst the 30-50 years group to look forward to their freedom to do stuff.
I'm wondering how many I'll be seeing in my 'office' before the month's end. Terracotta chino wearing ****s.
Oh my
All those backbenchers refusing to wear masks in parliament....

Will they, though?
Nope.
Freedom means Freedom.
Got Covid Done.
Nothing to see here.
Dumb as ****. Every single one of them.
When Hunt starts looking like the sane voice of reason, you know there's an issue.
Now this is my fault for going to a well known purveyor of "never look like they do on the posters" burgers and having to q outside.
Staff chatting with elderly couple at front of q and all seemed reassuringly sensible in that they want to carry on wearing masks inside such places and staff also want this to continue. Enter gobshite painter and decorator to the conversation (uninvited) and apparently "no one" will wear a mask after the 19th as Boris says we don't have to anynore! "He's got the numbers innit, so he should know".
I tried explaining that that wasn't what Boris said but no chance he's listening - no masks for him anywhere from Monday!! Can I blame the bloke for being thick, probably not. Can I blame the Government, absolutely and all because they chose "irreversible" as their latest slogan.
Presumably the health secretary gave a negative LFT prior to going into the care home - you know, following the rules and all that?
Though there's a delicious irony if care home residents gave the cabinet Covid.....
Breaking news, Javid has tested positive from a rapid test, awaiting a PCR test… All because he doesn’t have enough common sense. Oh dear.

My NHS working wife got covid does she not have "enough common sense" either? That seems to be what your saying. Its not like he went licking covid patients in a hospital he got it the same way most people get it by coming into contact with someone who has it.
No, that's not what I'm saying.
Your wife, like me and my nhs partner before getting Long Covid (off work since Xmas, two periods of 5+ weeks off work last year too), have no input on polical decisions by Javid and Boris... Telling us to use common sense now to not get Covid.
So government guidance says NOT to take a LFT if you have symptoms
Which is exactly what Javid says he did....
Just visited a service station (in Wales) only 1 woman in the building not wearing a mask. She comes up behind me in the ladies and leans over to use the soap and tap (because that's the nearest sink to her cubicle). Everyone else wearing masks, making room for others and using common sense. This woman is the scary type and there's too many of them for my liking.
We're back in England now and I'm dreading Monday, as many of our local indi shops have asked their customer's opinion on wearing masks (on face book), too many have said the masks are uncomfortable, they're fed up with covid or they won't come in the indi shop if they have to wear a mask or distance.
Mmm they should try feeling uncomfortable with being ill.
Sorry for rant but I've had enough of these selfish idiots.
Luckily my customers will all be wearing masks.
TJ. I wish you well and have the best day you can in the circumstances. Picnic sounds amazing.
The only question left in all of this is "how big does the daily death count need to be before?"
A. Boris does a U turn
B. Press kicks off
C. Public kicks off
Answers please
A: a few thousand more than C.
B: the second they realise that they can scare the public with a headline that looks scary and generates them paper sales and online clicks (barring a few outlier papers who are already running the stories).
C: the second that the hospital's start either running out of space for admissions or start to cancel routine proceedures in droves.
So in two or three weeks maximum.
The question surely has to be, "if we don't unlock now when can we". I'm now into my second year of vastly reduced wages without the benefit of been able to work from home. Each time I have to self-isolate I get no pay and no support from anyone. I can longer afford the luxury of not facing reality that this is something we have to live with. This virus has 99%+ recovery rate, it's surely easier for the vunerable to isolate than the whole country.
Re javid getting a dose
I'm conflicted. Half of me wants him to get a very minor illness, which would hopefully back up the assertation that the double jabbed don't get particularly Ill
On the flip side, out health secretary getting a severe dose may force a bit of a rethink with regards to this freedom day madness
So in two or three weeks maximum.
I was out with 2 senior doctors on a club ride this morning, both agreed that at current resources 3 weeks is when thing start to turn to shit at the current admissions rate. Whitty claimed 5 weeks before measures in the press.

*Gets popcorn, awaits the backlash against this post suggesting such a thing*
Oh, you're a brave person.

If he's spread it to others in the cabinet & /or Johnson then that might underline seiousness
Been offline for a few days due to work. Just to say that delta takes no prisoners. Below is the Our World in Data cases in Israel compared to the distribution for European countries. Vaccination? Hmmm. Deaths are stable in Israel at the moment. Cases are climbing just as they are everywhere. Admissions and deaths still growing a little slower than cases here. For how long?

Keep your hands inside the car at all times. It’s might be a rough ride.

I would say really the question is why are we not supporting people in your position? some folk get huge support ( well above average income) and some get bugger all. thats the problem
along with a useless government who have acted too little too late thru all this making the situation much more serious than it need be
I would say really the question is why are we not supporting people in your position
Absolutely this. First rule of government is to protect its citizens. It’s what it means to be a society. Protect those who suffer the most. Some of the measures for the self-employed have been woeful and shameful.
I never know how to pronounce these gaelic words, so quaich. Is that the same as a queef?
71stu makes a good point. However what I’m struggling to understand is why so many industries other than those associated with entertainment are still so hard hit - as far as I can see most areas of society are already open.
Surely rather than getting rid of all restrictions entirely, better support for the few industries that it’ll pure madness to let open (Ie nightclubs), continue with mandated mask use (which let’s face it, would have bugger all impact on 99.9 % of folks livelihoods), and then take a cautious approach from there.
Let’s be honest, I’m sure the cost of supporting the small percentage that still can’t work will be far less than the short and long term cost of letting delta spread unchecked through society
A friend of mine lives in HK, married to a Chinese citizen. She’s just gone back home to Wuhan with the kids for summer but he can’t go because he’s not a national. Despite HK having nearly no positive cases for four weeks, she has to quarantine for three weeks on arrival. In her case it’s in an 18th floor apartment, and the the authorities lock the door from the outside and have added tamper tape. No idea what the punishment is for leaving but I can imagine its punitive.
In a city of 8m people or so, they are averaging under 10 new cases a week, and HK is under strict control still - although that may be politically motivated too.
We have no idea just how easy our lockdown has been, or how relatively normal the last few months have been. We could have continued with masks and social distancing without any great fuss in my opinion, and relaxed the rules on isolating for close contact if double jabbed and that would have been a massive improvement, but the truth is there’s a huge slice of society who now couldn’t care less. The brakes came off for those people months ago.
Keep your hands inside the car at all times. It’s might be a rough ride.
So, yes, strap yourselves in like I said.
I genuinely think we are f*#ked and will be in this see-saw world for another few years. I don't know how economies will cope. Many are already at the bottom of the barrel. I feel more anxious now than I did last year. Optimism crept in at the start of this year, but it feels like we are heading back to the depths of heavy restrictions in a couple of weeks.
It's all consuming. Everything is effected by this. Had almost got the smallest level of motivation to go for a bike ride tomorrow but now I just not interested.
The gov say the new restrictions on France are due to the rise in the Beta variant there. But i have also heard that the Beta variant is in decline in mainland France as the Delta is taking over and that the Beta is only on the rise in the French overseas territories.
If this is correct this is an almighty cock up in the travel restrictions.
Any insights
C: the second that the hospital’s start either running out of space for admissions or start to cancel routine proceedures in droves.
Already happening, no one cares yet.

Yep overall beta variant seems to be declining in France & cases in overseas territories are much higher than mainland.
In UK delta has dominated and seems to be doing so in France,
https://twitter.com/Claire_InFrance/status/1416124503625814018?s=19
I guess the worry is that beta being vaccine resistant will rise due to selection pressure from vaccines, but delta seems pretty good at evading vaccines too (see Javid), so probably not
Any insights
Answered your own question
this is an almighty cock up
From CNN, warning, it doesn't make for pleasant reading if you are a little concerned about England's Big Bang approach to reopening.
Singapore and the UK are both planning to 'live with Covid.' They are worlds apart on how to do that
I genuinely think we are f*#ked and will be in this see-saw world for another few years. I don’t know how economies will cope
We’re not. If you have antibodies on board from a vaccination then you are protected from severe disease (not necessarily symptoms, infection or spread). If enough people have that protection then pressure on healthcare will be lower and (hopefully) manageable. The idea is that if it’s not so manageable, then summer is the time to find out. When RSV and influenza leveLs are low.
As for the economy, I think this will return faster than people believe. The FT charts data that suggests that.
It’s the unprotected (children and adolescents) that have been driving the spread as they do every year for influenza. The sooner we vaccinate the adolescents, the better. Scotland peaked a week after schools closed…

Yeah, about that....

There will be a u-turn on that by October half term is my prediction
Also this seems to say delta is a bigger problem than thought
