Kenda Double Black โ€“ MTB Precision and Power

โ€œThe Double Black is KENDAโ€™s latest mountain bike tyre, built with Separate constructions so riders can tailor their choices depending on the trails and terrain they ride. With its aggressive tread pattern, the Double Black provides maximum grip, cornering confidence, and dependable puncture protection. Designed for both elite competition and rowdy local trails, it delivers the control and durability needed when the ride gets rough.

โ€œWe donโ€™t know if the new Double Black will help you to tackle your next Double Black Diamond trail, but it wonโ€™t hold you back, either. The Double Black is KENDAโ€™s latest all-condition gravity and trail tyre, bridging the gap between the Hellkat and the Pinner. Itโ€™s a true all-rounder with noticeably faster rolling speed, and a planted and confident feel on hardpack and loose over hard conditions. Choose from a range of casing options, from the robust downhill casing to the all-new enduro casing, along with versatile all-mountain and trail options.

  • โ€œDeveloped specifically for most World Cup DH tracks, with world cup athletes.
  • โ€œA true do-it-all tread pattern with ultra well supported cornering knobs.
  • โ€œAvailable with entirely re-designed enduro casing.
  • โ€œLarge volume casing is nimble, comfortable and responsiveโ€

Q&A with Tony Yandek, Lead Engineer

What were the development goals for this project?

We wanted to develop a tyre that would be ideal for most World Cup tracks without being bound to design restrictions or marketing obligations. We needed to develop a tyre that would work just as well in the fresh cut loam section of the track as the cement-like bike park berms, and so we rigorously tested every tyre we saw at the World Cup and learned from it.

Would you recommend this tyre to be run front, rear or both?

All of the above! Itโ€™s a great tyre for all-condition riding, from loam to hardpack; so it depends on your style and the terrain youโ€™re riding. Itโ€™s the most versatile MTB tyre weโ€™ve developed so far.

What sets this tyre apart from the competition?

The amount of R&D resources weโ€™ve put into this project. Working through many prototype layups, experimenting with new materials and to top it off โ€“ working directly with some of the worldโ€™s best downhill riders.
