Am I the only one bodging it?

Nope, I'm set up with an old desk in the garage. It's bloody cold in here and I'm trying my hardest not to get on with building my new bike frame given the jig is set up within touching distance.

Bit of a result, I'd completely forgotten I had a large lump of (nicely heavy) chipboard from a piece of old Ikea furniture - I've now doubled the size of my desk and a monitor will fit in nicely ๐Ÿ™‚

i have dual 19" monitors set up on top of the cooker in my camper van

with cordless keyboard and mouse on the "table"

a wifi repeater in the shed sending signal over.

hastly set up after my daughter expresed her delight that the order was going to be delivered on may 3rd during conferance call.

its working quite well - how ever not very ergonomic so for HSE purposes i am limiting my scfeen time.

Id post pohotos but that would mean coming off the VPN and getting back on is not trivial - it seems to be just about coping sometimes and on its arse the rest of the time

I can't be arsed to take a photo but currently sunning in the garden with the laptop, it's so nice I'm contemplating cracking a beer and ****ing off my one bit of daily exercise.

I can only hear the birdsong, it's brill.

Just gave my bikes a good clean on my break.

Loving it so far.

What is it with you lot and all that clutter, and many big screens, and music and guitars and stuff.

Keep it clean and simple. Been doing this for 15 plus years.

Next job expenses claim. Might be the last one for a while!

And yes, that is a defiant cactus!

WFH

I know the cables need tidying up and I've also just realised that I skipped the engine cover / bonnet for the Mack truck...

Not the most inspired set up.
ยฃ20 Gumtree desk and hastily rearranged room.

Just a bout surviving. I did nearly 10 years working from home before. I'm not overly keen on the concept TBH.

For anyone needing a monitor it might be worth asking at work as they let us take our monitors home.

No idea how some of you work with the clutter around you. I need to tidy up before I can start work, my brain cant function until I do.

Do none of you make phone calls?ย  Or do you shout at your laptops?ย  (only 1 headset, no speakerphones)

No photos, but I've worked from home for a while, so laptop, cordless keyboard and mouse, second monitor, and usually at least 2 headsets...

Not if I can help it! Much prefer Skype chat etc, phone calls are really irritating.

Yeah, but I needed the phone to take the photo.

Looks like I don't need to spend too long worrying about keeping the garage warm.. just had notification that after 31st I'm being furloughed (?) so going to have at least 3 weeks going quietly (or not so quietly) crazy in the house with 3 children

I work from home 95% of the time anyhow, but thousands of other people trying to use the vpn at the same time is troublesome

Iโ€™ve never been so grateful for a dedicated space. I feel for those of you having to squat somewhere temporary.

My missus has been using the laptop as a second monitor to save messing with cables on my desktop. Spacedesk works really well for that, in theory miracast should work but doesn't and I don't have a spare wireless dongle to bump start it.

officeything

Need the laptop back as trying to do any Internet related activities on mini squirrels netbook is a waste of time so setting up the allinone we had in the loft in lieu of a second monitor.

Also questioning the praying mantis ergonomics, how you get anything done is beyond me.

@sirromj - Iโ€™ve got that same Helena Tyce print up next my desk.

Youโ€™re showing almost as much discernment as the OP (hi Dunc!) whoโ€™s got my artwork up ๐Ÿ˜‰

Phew, that makes my (hastily cleaned this afternoon) desk look OCD clean!

Will post a pic when my new monitor is installed. Single monitor poverty is not a good look!

How do you lot manage to type with the keyboard so close to the edge of the desk? If the arm rests are high enough to support your elbows don't they just bump in to the edge of the desk on a regular basis?

I mostly read stuff and just type short emails. I push my keyboard forward a bit when I need to type (- it's a bit like the penny falls at the amusements 😁 ). Armrests would foul the desk but chair never goes that far forwards (and I type with elbows on the armrests - that's why they've got bar tape on 'em)

You really don't want to know the cost, my wife calls it the star trek chair, it came from a used office furniture supplier & I'm yet to get over the cost but it is the most comfortable thing I have ever sat in.

The company I work for have been great and have given us a decent budget to kit ourselves out.

Theyโ€™ve also managed to work out how to route all phone calls through the laptop and WiFi. Iโ€™ve got a headset behind all that screen action.
