I found and purchased a rather lovely and matching Zuludiver Seasalter for the Chris Ward:
Oooh nice, that’s better than the previous straps you posted up here, very nice indeed.
@kato Just get one, they're blimmin lovely. I think Neil has one too...

I thought its held sentimental value but it doesn’t really and I find I don’t wear it as much as I should.
“why not get both?” @tall_martin I just bought a Tudor GMT so don’t have the money to buy a new Seamaster straight off.
Sensible head on says don’t sell it and wait until I can afford to buy a new one, but I’m impatient once the seed has been sown!
Well, I'm going to suggest saving up again then. If you have the Tudor and the little worn quartz seamaster you have two "new" watches to wear while you save. Is there not some fancier version of the sea master you could get with the saving plus the quartz seamaster money? Some thing more limited?
My son inherited his great great grandfather s watch. He's 2, I thought a 1920's solid silver pocket watch would be worth loads. £100 on eBay! That particular watch sold by the boat load.
If you would like a return on the auto sea master in the future, just incase it's not your forever watch, a less common version might be in more demand.
Nice things are nice. After I posted that last message, a bloke went past in a bright red vintage Ferrari. The driver looked very pleased with himself. I'm sure you would be just as pleased with a different version of a classic watch .
If it's not got sentimental value, sell it.
I've got my dad's Bulova Accutron - he's still alive but gave it to me 20 years ago. It's got sentimental value so I've had it serviced (a pain for tuning fork watches, not a lot of places can do it) and wear it. When he dies I'll probably get his Rado ceramic but it's not the same - I can remember him getting the Bulova in the 70s and being so proud of it.

In 2005 the boss of our small company - the one that started my career - sold it for £9m and held a party at his Surrey pad for all 25 employees. At 2:30am he showed us his new dark grey, red leather interior DB9 sitting in the garage, and let those interested sit inside and rev it. The smell, sound and hand stitched leather around the dash left a lasting impression on on me.
One day, I will own a luxury watch and it’ll be the watch that stops me buying any other Well, maybe…
Indeed I do bolo, and I agree it's bloody lovely. I used 'James Henry watches'. Google will find him, and got mine for £3600, which was an 18% discount at the time. RRP has gone up twice since. I'd been watching tz-uk for ages and either missing out (too slow) or felt some were asking a little too much. Eg some were up at £3800, and selling eventually. So bought new through James. As is often the case with tz, it goes in waves, but I was stunned to see the one at £3400 with extra strap take ages to sell.
Just been in to look at a BB58 blue and an Omega Seamaster Diver 300 in white. I want to get a watch with the money that my mum left me, something tangible. They're both really nice, I can't decide which I prefer.
Anyone else like the look af the Tudor Black Bay Pro? Think that'll be my N+1 soon....
@boblo Tried on the black and the white SMP 300 today. Black is the safe choice but the white was a stunner!
Wife has said she'd buy it for my birthday and likes the white one more so that's the choice made!
@Murray there's quite size difference and a price difference between those two. It would be the SMP for me
Aye, buy it from the joint account... 😁
'Good choice...' as they say in pretentious restaurants. I would say that tho...
Pics on (left) wrist once bought ifyaplease. 👍
Good man Kato! And @Murray,, both good but don't rule out the black bb58 or the standard BB if you are ok with the size of the SMP. If ok with that size and the SMP price then the pelagos is also worth a look. I would say that though, I have a blue pelagos and the White SMP
Can't remember if I said already, I've put the SMP on s black sailcloth with white stitching which I think looks rather good. I like the LL look on the omega rubber but find rubber straps sweaty and I don't like them, the sailcloth is a similar look though. Whilw fitting I had a play with my po bracelet. Since I have the 42mm po I thought the the bracelet might fit and it does... Almost. The end links are a perfect snug fit except the spring bar holes don't line up and the bars won't go in. I may get some new bars and try a little bend to the end, as in my view the po bracelet looks and wears very very well.

@Kato I guess it depends a lot on what you attach the sentimental value to. If you're going to look at the new watch as a replacement of the old watch, and the new one will mean the same to you, I'd say sell it and treasure the new watch.
My father bought me a limited edition Swiss Army knife for my 18th birthday. I've managed to lose it twice, so have bought myself a replacement each time. Of course it's not physically the same knife, but it still means the same to me... if that's how you think you'll feel about the new watch, why hang on to the old one?
Good to see this thread still running strong!
My latest obsession has been Sinn divers, specifically the U50
Bloomin lovely, very solid and made of U-Boat steel...
That Black Bay Pro is divine. I'd have it on the hybrid strap. Love it.
Nicko74 - nice, quiet partial to a Sinn.
There was one on TZ that was full of oil to withstand huge pressures. Not exactly a DIY battery change then.
Hi, I've had the Sinn UX (oil filled jobby). The battery life is 7-10 years, so service is not a big problem. It wore very well for a 5000m rated watch, 44mm diameter but only 13mm thick and sensible lug to lug. Sold coz Explorer...
Any experience of buying through Chrono24?
Anything to watch out for?
Are descriptions - mainly statements about condition - reliable?
Incoming comms from EB….
As production’s almost complete, we thought you’d appreciate an update: the Singletrack watches should be delivered to us next month, assuming all goes to plan.
We are still seeing delays in manufacturing and transportation so this might still move unfortunately but we’ll keep you updated with a firm delivery date as soon as we have one.
Below is a quick iPhone snap of the caseback just to give you an idea of how the caseback will look.

As soon as they’re delivered to us here, we’ll drop everything and start sending them out in order sequence, with earlier orders being delivered first. We’ve got some admin to do once they’re delivered but it should only take us a few days to deliver them all.
If you’ve moved house since you placed your order and haven’t already told us, please let us know.
As soon as your watch is packed and ready for despatch, you’ll get a confirmation email from our system and then an email from DPD once it enters their system so that you can track it along the way. DPD will provide you with an hour time slot so you know exactly when to expect delivery, and you can arrange re-delivery etc via the same email if you need to.
The DPD tracking number will go live the morning after the confirmation email, once the parcel has been collected and has been received at DPD’s hub.
If your watch is being delivered overseas, delivery will be via DHL who will also provide a tracking number as soon as the parcel enters their system.
Thanks again for your support and for making this Special Project such a success. We’ll be in touch again soon with a confirmed delivery date.
Best regards,
Alex and Ian

I quite like the look of the new Casioaks - looks like they get a Japanese release mid May. As I'd really like a Moonswatch but figure I'll have got over it by the time they're actually available from Swatch online I might get a G Shock to cheer me up in the meantime 🙂

I only twigged recently about the oil filled aspect, it's fascinating. Sinn really don't mess about - just the necessary parts and tolerances for the job. The fact that they can get 500m WR with the U50 (11m thick, no particularly special parts; and 5,000(!)m for the UX but still have it reasonably wearable with 44m/ 13mm dimensions is really a joy to see. Also, just checking but they say the UX case is rated to 12,000m, it's just the movement is only rated to 5,000m. Wild!

I'm struggling to not buy a 5600/5610 on for no apparent reason. I know its a waste of money, and my self limiting watch box is full...

I might have to as well, destroyed my last G-Shock trying to change a battery through ham-fistedness and losing a little bit on a carpet the same colour as the little bit
I like the one in black with the little red hand

Has anyone received the Ukraine NATO strap yet? I had an email last week saying that it had been dispatched 1st class, but so far nothing.

Not yet Andy, and I too was confused by an e-mail saying my order was complete, without it having shown up. So I e-mailed this morning and got a rapid reply saying there were 700 to pack and ship so they're not a slick as normal! Told me they actually went yesterday, so maybe today sometime, possibly tomorrow.
Arrived today!

Hmm, another speedy-alike with a difference:

Anyone seen these. Seiko based homages to various more expensive brands. I think I quite like the Nautilus.
https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/11thHourWatches

I've been looking at blue dial watches recently, namely the Tissot PRX.... which I can't decide if I actually like. I really like the waffle dial and the bracelet, not so sure about the case. I think it would look better on a larger wrist, which I don't have
Also spotted this Seiko with an incredible dial

Not *exactly* a waste of money - after all, it'll always be charged, ready to go and pretty bulletproof when you need it for a tough job! 😀
I've always liked the look of the Ti 5610 that looks to all intents and purposes like the original resin one, but it's a bit tougher to justify £1.5k for one...

Love it - extra virgin olive oil!!
Not sure @kato. A blue Nautilus is very tempting but I'm not normally a fan of homage watches. Will leave one in my basket for a few days and have a think.

I'd be with you if I didn't already have...

Although I don't have a full digital in my collection. PSA on that btw at £224 of someone wants a GSteel.
@dmorts - here's my nice blue, (well blue-grey) Seiko, with the Ukraine NATO which arrived about quarter of an hour ago.

I should have ordered one of those. I am toying with selling the Vostock with 100% donation to Ukraine instead. I know its a political thing, but I am torn as I like the watch and is it any worse than owning a Laco etc....
I know what you mean Kryton. I'm not wearing mine at the moment, but think this time will pass and Russia's leadership will change, so they can just be put away for now and it'll be like getting a new collection in some years time.
Which means I have room in my rotation for a diver and lightweight beater... 🤔
And within minutes of me posting my G shock I got a launch email for this - look familiar?

I suspect it uses the same module as the GA 200 solar.
The battery has gone in my g shock and I have to say I’m in no rush to get it changed. It’s a beater I keep in Ireland for when doing outdoors tasks but I find it major style over substance - too many functions, too big and generally too much. I don’t really care about tide times tbh. I have an old dw290 which is by far the better watch.
Pre orders are now open on the G Shock site for the new GA-B2100 solar / bluetooth model if you've registered. I've ordered the black with the small red pointer, am excited!

I have a couple of Vostocks and TBH they were already falling out of favour, I dunno about flogging them as that keeps them in circulation, or just ceasing to wear them full-stop.

No fuss from me - I just like the look of them. Mind you, according to my 15YO son I have NO taste 🙂 as I quite like the look of the MoonSwatch too. I fancy something plastic to go along side my nice stainless auto watch so this fits the bill especially as the MoonSwatch seems unavailable at the moment. Perfect at £130.
Why are they called Casio-aks? Because the Octagon face like a Audemars?
Hello. I'm 'working' on Crete at present, accompanied by the blue Pelagos. But I'm getting an itch... do any of you have experience with a Fifty Fathoms? I tried one on last year and the 45mm case fits, though it is a big 'un. What are they like to own though? I hear the service costs are ferocious. Cheers.
Blancpain, not experienced no. That's moving into high end stuff not the mass manufactured world of Omega roles etc so I'd expect higher service costs. Nice looking watches and the original driver I believe.
I had a Casioak but it didn’t stay long. Was a little underwhelmed. Didn’t feel like a G-Shock and I couldn’t read the negative lcd on it. I wouldn’t buy another.
I've just fitted one of Elliot Brown's new style NATO straps with the infinitely adjustable buckles to my Springfield GMT. It was something I'd been meaning to do since receiving the watch and discovering I'd ordered the all black version with a black strap and this week I finally got round to it.
It took a while because it's a £45 NATO to go on a $200 quartz beater which seemed a bit excessive but it's defintely worth the money. Not only is the strap itself very well made but the tan fabric matches the tan on the dial of the watch really well so it looks like an original option. It also makes the watch a lot less bulky, both visually because of the colour and physically because the material is quite thin and it only has one layer under the watch.
The only drawback is the initial fitting is quite complicated, it took me several goes to get it fitted properly but once you understand it, it all makes sense and then adjusting the strap to fit or to reduce or increase the amount of tail is really straightforward.
So if anyone fancies a NATO which is well made, low profile and which should last ages then they're definitely worth a look, however they're 22mm only AFAIK. That said I'd quite like them to do a modern release of the orginal Animal straps as well!
@neilnevill, yes, they beat the Sub by a few months in 1953. I think they patented the ratcheting unidirectional dive bezel, while Rolex had already nabbed the screw-down crown. Ergo, how was the Fifty Fathoms kept waterproof to, errrr, 50 fathoms (91m) pressure...
I'd be in it for the finishing though. I'm beginning to think I'm a bit old for my Pelagos; much as I gaze at it lovingly here in the Grecian sunshine (sometimes dangerously, while driving!). I'm happy to beat on my Pelagos a fair bit but a Blancpain would be a poser diver obviously!
I like the look of them, the bezels are sapphire glass I think. The pelagos makes a good beater for everyday if it's price doesn't phase you, the ti doesn't show scratches like steel and the pure tool looks suit some patina of use anyway. I can see how the blancpain would be a different kind of watch! Get it, it want photos!
On topic, Christopher Ward have launched their new '55 homage:

All are COSC. Obvs this is the bronze version, others are available.
My bronze c60 pro is great. Selita movement within a second a day until it's not worn for a day and as the power reserve drops it loses 10+ seconds over a day. They use cusn6 which means it patinates quite fast. Impressive quality. I'd try and pick up a pre owned one though as that will save you a good chunk.
On the subject of C. Ward...
My C6 Kingfisher needs a new battery in it (it chomps through them at a right old rate) and my usual go to watch guy in Debenhams is no longer there, so I was figuring I'd buy a case opening tool and do it myself.
Its a screw on back, 6 holes. Ebay has loads of options, or there's the squishy ball (Do these actually work?). Any thoughts/recommendations/preferences?
I was figuring to reuse the O-ring - just clean & relube it with the same stuff you use on Hope brake seals.
Does that all sound doable?
Thanks...
Is it me or have CW watches got expensive over the last 5 or 6 years?
I have one from way back and they were marketed as good quality watches (Selita or ETA movements, well finished, good designs) for much less than more premium brands. I'm sure the one I have was under £500, I suspect less.
@JonEdwards Yeah use a tool with the pins rather than a ball type one. You'. be fine to reuse the O-ring if it's not damaged. I relube them with silicone grease
Yeah CW watches have steadily increased in price over the years. Still get a lot for your money though
I have a friend with a Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Tourbillon in rose gold, it feels very nice on the wrist and in the UK it draws your attention as it is a real stand out watch. In Dubai it probably looks a bit plain.
No idea on service costs though he can afford it so it has never raised its head as a topic.
I actually prefer the more basic versions but I am not mean enough to tell him that 🙂
On topic, Christopher Ward have launched their new ’55 homage
I'm not the biggest fan of blue watches but that works really well with the fresh bronze.
Yeah CW watches have steadily increased in price over the years. Still get a lot for your money though
You reckon?
I can get a Seiko or a Orient with an inhouse movement and a huge variety of designs for half the price. I really liked CW watches, but the higher prices now really put me off.
My personal experience is that the quality is a cut above a £500 Seiko, not that a £500 Seiko is necessarily bad by any means - I'm sitting here with my Arnie on my wrist.
Its one of those things that when you pick it up you can inexplicably feel the difference. YMMV of course.
Yeah
Quality of case and finishing is much higher than a comparable Seiko. Certainly no misaligned chapter rings and cyclops' or a bezel that doesn't line up like my old King Turtle. Seiko can't do COSC for under a £1k either,, although I'm sure they are no where near +45/-25 like they say they are. Saying that I've had 3 CW's and sent them all back for various reasons. Mind you I've flipped every Seiko I've owned as well! Got my eye on a no compass Alpinist though as they do look nice.
Tuesday is my birthday though, so expect a gratuitous wrist shot of a white Seamaster
@jp-t853, yeah, PM is not really on the menu, tourbillon even less! I struggle with the 4:30 date but I'll try some on and see how I feel. Not a rush purchase by any means...

Currently on Kommos beach, Crete, wearing but Oakleys and Pelagos. Choke on your lunches with horror (no photos 😂)!
Nice - Happy Birthday Kato!!
Gorgeous!
help needed.
Im currently looking for a simple daily watch ( well, office daily watch)
I wear my garmin most of the time, when not at work and have a few nice watches passed down from dad and grandad that I can't face wearing everyday as they are a little bit, well, fancy.
It would be second hand purchase, around the 200 mark.
I was looking at the elliot brown canford. Which seem to sell for that price. The bloxworth is also around that price but I have a cheap "divex" diver that I was given by work, so dont really want another of that style.
Any other suggestions from the hive?
