This is going off on a complete tangent but does anyone else think that the ring girls look completely out of place?
I thought it was weird the first time I saw a women's fight. I'm not sure if I thought they should be men up there holding the cards or something but to me having some models walk round the ring while the fighters were getting there cuts seen to and trying to recover enough to get back into battle was bizarre. Then I started to think they looked really out of place in the men's events too.
It's a three round fight, I think I can remember which round we're in.
Britney and Arianne are pretty much part of the "brand". Arguably better known than a lot of the fighters!
[s]Cheerie[/s] Tìoraidh
FTFY 🙂
If you got rid of them do you reckon there'd be a drop in gate and PPV revenue?
I could be wrong but MMA always struck me as trying to be more progressive.
senior partner in a law firm,
Of course!
So the other Senior Partners from the Law Firm are happy for him to be risking serious injury sparring with you and your mates.
a guy who runs an insurance company
Runs an insurance company????
all earn £300k/yr+
They discuss their salaries with you?
Where is your gym by the way? Canary Wharf or in The City?
Cheerie TìoraidhFTFY
Thanks. I don't tend to write gaelic, just speak a wee bit.

Edinburgh.
Must be interesting for those with high profile roles such as the head teacher to attend work with facial injuries from fighting, even if everyone knows he's a martial arts expert. I suspect my employer, who pays me considerably less, would find it challenging if I tried to carry out my day job looking like the victim of an assault even if the other guy did look worse (which in my case he wouldn't beyond scraping his knuckles on my pointy features).

Doesn't seem to be an issue for those that work in high profile roles and sustain facial injuries playing rugby.

It can be! My boss wasn't over the moon when we went to meet the directors of a major bank to present to them and I had a proper bulging black eye. No matter how you got it, it doesn't look great.
Come on then let's check it all out, name the gym I'm guessing it's highly reputable with all those big players, not run in a leisure centre hall or anything...guy with the profiles you mention will be used to the high life one would assume they're expect I train in a state or te art facility.
Folk I know earning over £300k tend to have and attend the best of the bet gyms/golf clubs etc...or is it all spit and sawdust...authentic something money can't buy?

Fair comment but I'd expect the injuries to be more evident from the legalised fighting.

I can only speak for TKD and rugby - rugby injuries tend to be far worse in my experience.
Name of the gym .... Bruce Wayne school of Awsumness? 🙂
Not a chance will that be forthcoming, that'd mean some of the rubbish above would have to be real!
Fred 'the Shred' Goodwin is surely a member of said gym.
Believe me we defiantly move in different circles...I can could the amount of people I know that earn upwards of £300k on one finger.
Plus I don't know a team full of 'impressive' world class fighters that would beat 'any' UFc fighter in a TKD bout!
Your lead a life of elitism that I could never dream of...anyway what was the name of the club again? I'll do some research...can't be more than half a dozen TKD gyms in one Scottish city...or is it like Fight Club...1st rule...no one talks about fight club...Doh!

I dont definatly move in any circles. BTW - the rugby club I work for has more people in it who earn over £300k/yr than people who earn less than that. Posh boys club that though.
Plus I don't know a team full of 'impressive' world class fighters that would beat 'any' UFc fighter in a TKD bout!
That might be because you're not involved with a national TKD squad who just happen to be world champions. Just a stab in the dark that one.

No elitism here. I just train with a good club.. Edinburgh had upwards of 40 TKD clubs. There are well over 300 martial arts and boxing clubs. It is an absolute hotbed for producing talented fighters. Seeing as you want to do your own research I'll leave it to you to find out. All the information is in the thread to allow you to do so. Hint, it's TKD, and it's based in Edinburgh.
This thread is just ace!!!! Seriously, Badass quantum physicists/head teachers of boarding schools that regularly break eachothers bones in sparring, could all routinely beat any of the UFC fighters and all earn over 300k per annum......and a mention of anal probing too.
Teh awesumz

All interspersed with people who cannot read very well.
Can't wait for the new members joining to validate Walter Mitty's tall tales.

Mods should probably close the thread now, I think it's gone it's distance. Which is more than Aldo did.
Did he take a dive though ?
😆
If he didn't he made an unbelievably stupid mistake and has a glass jaw. Think I'd rather admit to taking a dive... 😀
Good effort all. Can I please reserve a ticket for the Edinburgh tkd club members v UFC fought w night? All tkd members fees to charity as they don't need it.
What was the good effort? Just seems to me that there's a lot of people who refuse to read things properly.
Quick close the thread before wanmankylung gets outed as jackanory!
Tell you what give us the name of the team you fight for and said champions so we can all google them check out their credentials...oh yeah that's right it's all BS...and if you can't back it up it will confirm to everyone who reads the thread that every piece of sh*t you've spouted on here ain't true...come on then what you waiting for??? Yeah...thought not...
a 'normal' punch with 4 oz gloves is very good at breaking your knuckles?
Not if the technique is good.
Whilst I couldn't say that the above is wrong, it sort of technically signifies where the disconnect is, for me - MMA is such a broad church that you can't state that "correct technique means you'll never break knuckles", the almost infinite combination of situations that involve throwing a punch means that injuring yourself can't really be ruled out, in contrast the more rigid structure of an individual martial art means that you're only likely to injure yourself if your technique is bad. I'm crap at analogies but take a look at the Hughes/Newton gif posted earlier, I'm sure that no martial art in the world would state that the correct thing to do when being choked out is park your protagonist high up on the fence and wait to pass out, I'm similarly sure that it wasn't his roadmap to victory. But he won the fight, and technique be damned - that's where MMA has an edge over any single martial art system, take what you can and use it to best effect.
Respect your commitment to your beliefs, but totally knew that
wasn't going to be the end of it. Good man! 🙂Cheerie
Good effort making ten pages of 'exchange'.
Every time I feel inclined to think WML is being genuine I remember his argument is UFC fighters are average and good amateur tkd fighters would beat them. #stumblingblock.
I think Wanman-whatever is getting TKD confused with the Masons 😉
If were throwing pointless facts out there I reckon Dan Bilzerian would kick all your mates arses at poker and earns more money*
*Apart from the 12yr old professional poker player who earns 300k a minute but takes time out to teach perfect TKD kicks to unprivileged kids while still breaking bones during sparring sessions with Chuck Norris but is that hard he's not that interested in having a go at MMA. To be fair tho, if I had over a 100 belts I wouldn't compete either, must be some entourage pmsl
Of course! So the other Senior Partners from the Law Firm are happy for him to be risking serious injury sparring with you and your mates.
Are you going to respond to that?
They discuss their salaries with you?
Or to this?
My brother in law was told by hus employer to stop playing rugby after a couple of facial injuries as it looked bad in meetings
We clearly move in different circles. Thankfully.
Yes I move in one that actually exists somewhere other than my head whereas yours is well this
Okay, so I don't know Edinburgh but this club is in a nice part? Presumably a very affluent area? It's not that big a city/ Can't be that many clubs around a really upper class area. Perhaps we should just tweet or email this thread to all of them and see who replies?
Or perhaps there aren't many Professors of Quantum Physics in Edinburgh? Could Professor Graeme Ackland be one of wanmankyluns's fellow badass dancers?
If I was running ANY martial arts club and one of my members was disgracing themselves and the art by trolling, and disgracing the club by insulting genuine martial artists I'd be throwing them out.
Must be interesting for those with high profile roles such as the head teacher to attend work with facial injuries from fighting,
The two friends of mine that fight most are
a) women
&
b) Ones a primary teacher, the other's a police officer
this is the tread that keeps on giving...
Love how he asks for the thread to be closed as soon as hes actually asked to provide evidence...Are you 12?
Every time I feel inclined to think WML is being genuine I remember[s] his argument is UFC fighters are average and good amateur tkd fighters would beat them[/s] his previous logons.. #stumblingblock.
😆
I find this thread quite disturbing and I am surprised it hasn't been closed down yet.
A lot do not believe wanmankylungs claims which you are perfectly entitled to do. But to hound him for so long about it threatening to expose him and email strangers details of the thread is sick and you should be ashamed. What is so wrong with your own lives that trying to put others further down into a hole makes you feel good about yourself?
This is nothing short of online bullying.
You don't share his ip by any chance?

I assume that they fight semi-contact and don't break jaws when sparring?
You don't share his ip by any chance?
No I don't, but I am sure someone can easily check if the possibility concerns you so much.

That's not an unreasonable comment based on this thread, but you need to bear in mind that WML/TZF/Glupton has an extensive history going back a number of years of trying to be Billy Big Bollocks on certain topics, and making claims that he subsequently gets called out on, which he can't back up - special driving instructor to the world's best qualified drivers, the UKs top physiotherapist on completion of his NVQ, stuff like that. You then add to that his inability to admit when he's wrong or been shown to be talking shit, and it's hardly surprising that when he comes on a thread to try and show how superior he is people swiftly prove him wrong and call him out on it. That's why it happens. What's concerning is that despite all the times it's happened he hasn't learnt not to bullshit. And what's a little sad is that when he contributes something that sounds like it might be right, you cant really trust it.

That's bollocks for a kick off. As I've said before dont' judge people who you haven't met by your own standards.
I was a driving instructor - I taught people how to become driving instructors and other specialist types of training. I specialised because teaching learners was boring.
I then went and did a physio degree and was incredibly lucky to get straight into elite sport. These things happen when you are in the right place at the right time and take your opportunities. I was lucky in that my circle of friends was full of long since qualified physios who have some great jobs. One of my former classmates is now working for Celtic, one works for Arsenal, several work in premiership rugby.
I always admit when I'm wrong and never talk shit as you put it. If your opinion is different then that's something that you're entitled to believe. Having an opinion no matter how strong doesn't automatically make you correct.
I used to think similarly to you when I first started using the forum km79..
But when you've been here for a while and are used to seeing the interactions between members, especially those with many years experience, you get used to it..
As Kenny says above, it's natural to question someone over nonsense claims, and the interrogative approach is the nature of anonymous internet debate..
If wanmankylung was that sensitive about it, he could have easily stopped engaging with the conversation, or could have proved his claims, but instead he's chosen to make his contributions increasingly more absurd..
I don't doubt that he's deriving some perverse pleasure from all the attention and it's kind of entertaining (almost, maybe like watching a fight in a playground perhaps? You have to admire the skill and temerity of the opponents, almost compelled to keep watching til the best man wins.. It's like verbal ufc.. Or tkd)
Welcome to the internet! Enjoy your stay 🙂
