Now being discussed on Arbtalk in general chat section. No severe slagging off yet
Tie a paracute to it and hope the wind direction changes?
Ring up the 10 Downing St and tell them <world's most wanted terrorist> is hiding in the tree.

...or at least get £250 towards rebuilding it, off You've Been Framed.
I've tried to log into/onto arbtalk in the past, and been sent an (automated) email saying it was a pro only forum. Is that the case?
Here's the thread

Was going to discuss this on Arbtalk but figured here would be better. If you wanted to tackle felling a healthy tree I'd say go for it. I've been very surprised by the size of timber homeowners have tackled in the past. But windblown trees are very tricky for all sorts of reasons that I won't go in to here. Get a pro in... if it's just to put it on the deck for you and you tidy it up, it will be a lot cheaper than you think.
His risk, his insurance if it goes wrong, but also his expertise makes it a LOT less likely to go wrong. I'm nearly certain its a Beech tree from what I can see of it.
They don't have the best hinging properties and you need to be accurate with your cuts. Also you don't really want to be relying on the holding wood too much.

I tried reregistering on Arbtalk. No joy yet. This sounds like the kind of expert I need to speak to. Could anyone on here put me in touch with him through the Arbtalk forum?
I think what you actually need is a helicopter. Attach strop, straight lift up, translate horizontally as necessary, put back down, job done.
How do I claim my consultant's fee?
Why not just tilt the earth a bit? Kaesae can supply the earthquakes.
You could get this guy in, seems to know a thing or two:
That's the way to do it ^
Tree down and straight onto pick up for transportation. Perfect.
You know exactly what's coming and yet humour is delivered.
Welcome to Africa where the rules of physics are different 😀
Amazing!

+1
.
what's incredible about that african clip is that you hear no laughs from the cameraman 😯
based on STW and bikes the people on a tree forum will know **** all about trees
Even my wife just said that's not the way to do it! Now that is an accolade! Mind you I might invest in one of those pickups if it had a turning circle that was going to get it out of the drive.
Just how did they all think that couldn't fail?
EDIT
Still awaiting the postman with the winch. Perfect windless day here. Feel like a kid waiting for Santa. Oh, I got on Arbtalk, and left my number with the legendary tree surgeon with time on his hands.
Arbtalk = STW with chainsaws and Unimogs. Liking it a lot!
You know exactly what's coming
Don't spoil it - I was expecting something unexpected.
Got my eye on this thread. Could be "interesting" 😕
Don't let us down now, after all this build up we will need video content please, pretty please 😉
I wonder if anything has happened yet?
was hoping this was an update 🙁
What you really need it what we've got at work a 50ft reach 360 with a set of hydraulic tree shears. Much fun can be had with them 🙂
Sorry guys, no winch in the post this morning. 🙁
I'm sulking more than you guys.
On the plus side, I cleared my escape routes and got a strap 2/3 the way up the tree.
Just to keep things ticking along....... You really need to sort the weeds in that yard. And are the logos and valves lined up?
My Fergie has a loader.
and the log splitter primed and ready for action 🙂
McMoonter you have to promise to post pics of the err.. Tree Removal Plan In Action! What's the TRPIA countdown?
Kevevs, I'm still waiting for my Tirfor to arrive. I'd hoped it would be here today. So, Monday morning I'm in Edinburgh, if it's here and the weather is still good, I'll have a bash in the afternoon. It gets dark here around 3.30. I don't think night felling is officially recognised as safe.
I put a couple of straps about 30 feet up the tree today. Even that high the girth of the tree is wider than I could reach around with my arms. iDaves pic wouldn't be that far out if I tried it with the Fergie.
cool. I think there's a few of us anticipating a happy outcome. Y'know, just in case we happen to be in the same position in future (not likely). Pressure's on mate, Sort that ****in' tree out!
Definitely get it filmed...with two cameras in case one gets squashed.
I'm expecting a more epic version of this...
Mcmoonter, don't worry about it being dark. This a shared STW experience! I'm sure Troutie could sort a night felling light to ensure the show goes on.
Windblows are a touch unpredictable.
Yours looks simple, but complicated by the shed.
Usual approach for clearing a wind blow edge would be to sever and pull back the stem, however I can't see our tractor winch pulling in fast enough, even kicked into 1080, for the stem to clear the shed before hitting the deck. The hydraulic ones I've played with were slower still.
Next option would be sideways. However the little Fergie and tirfor will not be upto the job if there is even the slightest complication, shouldn't underestimate the ability of one branch to suspend a whole tree. You don't just have the weight of the tree. but the forces acting on it too.
Sideways with the aim to skid down the tree to the left of the shed if space is too tight to tie to other tree as earlier. Tractor winch behind tree in position to pull lengthways, snatch block to the side for sideways pull, big breakfast and strong shoulders for winch clutch.
Seen, but not tried, is a massive selection of pulleys, cables and counterweights to gently lower offending tree in stages after severing it.
40 ton hymac - can dominate most domestic situations.
Set fire to it is the most genius answer I've seen so far.
