Any update? Just back from the Puffer and was a bit busy and didn't have tinterweb access...?
Time for a "What Chainsaw For My Pool House" thread
*adds to favorites*..
I can't help thinking that even just waving a video camera in the general direction of this process is an almost certain kiss of death for the pool house.
re: the pic - I did wonder about building a frame to catch the tree above the pool house if the worst did happen?
McMoonter, may I suggest that you have someone reliable standing by with two '9's already entered into a telephone ๐
Good luck & don't forget the pics / video / whatever!
OMG!OMG!OMG!OMG!OMG!OMG!OMG!OMG!OMG!OMG!OMG!OMG!OMG!OMG!OMG!OMG!OMG!OMG!OMG!
you coudl have rented a tree surgeon for the cost of posting that lot ๐
Having worked for a tree surgeon for a while.... good luck...
*runs away and hides*
There goes my chance of getting any work done this afternoon. Who's doing the filming?
Please tell us that there is explosive charges in those boxes ๐
[edit] good luck btw
Who's doing the filming?
My mum! I've got more faith in getting the tree down than getting it on film.
ski - I think they're traumatic amputation first aid kits.
I'm almost weeing with excitement.
can someone tell me the twitter feed for this event?
I'm alive, the Pool Hoose lives!
It didnt fall exactly where I hoped. ๐
But no damage done to life nor limb.
I'm off to audition for Fred Dibnah's stunt double.
My mum took fright and ran off with the video when it fell.
This comes pretty close to the rush!
HURRAY!
You should have put the camera on a tripod. Mothers are not to be trusted with extreme videoing.
Is there no footage at all then?
*sharpens pitchfork*
Nice one, been watching this develop and been desperate to know the outcome - who needs telly eh...
The winch worked a treat. It pulled the tree almost reburying the root ball. I could see a bend in the tree under the winch tension.
I think my felling cut wasnt level. Thats probably why it fell to the side.
Thanks for all your support on this one!
Yay, STW party in the pool house!!
+10 MAN points!
Thank god, I can have a wee now! LOL
Good work sir!
Like the stump/free bird table ๐
Choptastic.
Well done that Man!
A happy ending. Well done that man!
now altogether everyone:
*for he's a jolly good feller, for he's a jolly good feller.....*
Anyone else feeling a little let down? ๐
Hmmm, has your pool room got a nice log fire?
Can see another project in the planning ๐
Yay! You are STW's conduit to manlyness. Better build yourself another log store.
I like the way that you've protected your head from 10,000kg of falling wood with an orange plastic hat.
I know what portlyone means, we had wanted drama, suspense (literal and actual), a degree of panic and people rushing about shouting "don't panic..... keep calm... " a lot. But what do we get, ruthless efficiency Well done! You are legend.
Have tree surgeons been found out? Have they been selling snake oil to the HSE obsessed?
Top job ๐
hurrah, IN YOUR FACE TREE!!
well done. but something has been bothering me while following this thread: what is a pool house? is it the place you get changed in next to your swimming pool? if so, where is the pool? or is it a place you play pool?
i am confused.

LOL
woop!
good work that man!
I have to say that I think I would quite like McMoonter's life.
what is a pool house?
Little more than a folly. It is located bewteen two pools.
Here's how I built it.

This and the balance bike thread are my fave things on STW in years. ๐
Good work all. As the old thought experiment goes:
"If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to [s]hear[/s] start a thread on it, does it make a sound?"
Top work. ๐
RIP Beech tree.
McMurderer.
*raises glass* - except i'm in work so it's a glass of water ๐
Good work and I'm glad you survived to tell the tale! You can tell Forth Ports they can go ahead with the biomass plant at Rosyth now and you can keep them in fuel for the next decade or two; probably without putting much of a dent in your log stores!
Top work! Well done fella (double meaning there!)
What's your next brush with adrenaline going to be?
