We will be in touch
You should see how the thread turns nasty later once everybody's had a chilled Chablis later and returns with his or her innovative methods. It definitely got a bit mental post watershed last night
I've got a large bottle of Leffe Blonde chilling. Could get messy! 😉
God this is a depressing read.....

Heh...fair play.
Rudi Giuliani's zero tolerance policing. Worked in the Big Apple, it'll work here.
As others have said, it wasn't all that. Some have suggested it had more to do with "Roe vs Wade" than "Rudi Can't Fail"

You know, of all the accusations and counter-accusations seen in this thread, the one which so far seems to have gone unchallenged is that all the coppers in this country are hate-filled, bent liers. Well, I would just like to go on record as saying that I think we should be thankful for the police force we have. I am sure there is a small minority of bad-uns, but looking at some of those feeds from last night, who on here would be willing to face up to one of those mobs?
Interesting druidh - who made that accusation 'cos I havent seeen it been made by anyone.

+1. In fact, + Many.
Kato, there's a pint with your name on it, any time you want. The Harp, behind Charing Cross nick if you can make it.
who on here would be willing to face up to one of those mobs?
I'm sat by the phone in my Dainese armour and TLD helmet - bombers by my side, waiting for the call...
dd, that beer's only 3.9 abv ??????????????????
ok as a driving beer I suppose.
is that all the coppers in this country are hate-filled, bent liers.
Who made this claim? On what thread? I haven't seen it.
sorry Druidh - normally you are a reasonable guy but thats a gross distortion of peoples positions. No one has said that at all.
dd, that beer's only 3.9 abv
La la la la la la la la la la la la la la - I'm not listening.
😳
ok as a driving beer I suppose.
....or a mixer.

Some people want NYPD here - now that's a bunch of hate-filled, bent liars for ya. I know a few cops - there are even a few on STW - and I tell you, for cops, they're alright you know 🙂
....or a mixer.
What's one of those?
Shurely the dove from above would be better?
I give it 5 mins before it's been stripped of all its feathers.

Oh who said that then? No one did really, did they? A few have questioned the motives of senior management, but I dont recall anyone saying that ALL coppers are like that. THAT WOULD BE STUPID.
Come on, you just wanted to say something emotional and positive about the police didn't you? Nothing wrong with that. Be brave.
It's what you drink with Special Brew to make it palatable dd 😉
More an implication than an outright accusation I'd say, and aimed at the organisation rather than any individual officers.
The police are stuck between a rock and a hard place, condemned if they stand off and villified if they go in - I certainly wouldn't do their job under these or any circunstances.......
some interesting footage on Sky News of groups of civilians prepared to apprehend looters
power to the people!
Apparently there at it at Deepdale retail park in Preston.
and also groups of local people going out to help victims of looting with the clean up, sometimes it takes hard times to bring out the best in people, let's hope something 'good' comes out of all this eh.....
Oh right, I thought it was another one of your euphemisms. 😕
condemned if they stand off and villified if they go in - I certainly wouldn't do their job under these or any circunstances
The vigilante groups in Enfield seem to be having a go, wonder how that may end.
wonder how that may end.
...badly.
Handy tool to find out if the rioters will be near you.
Just enter your postcode

I think the mood of the (decent) public at the moment is the only thing the police should be vilified for is not going in hard enough. You can't carry a looted telly if you have both arms broken.
According to Sky News they are kicking off in my town now. Apparently it's bullshit according to the local police.
If that is the case, then Sky need to have a word with themselves......idiots.
The pictures don't match the tone of reporting. Drop the dead donkey and all that..
Not much happening in reality
I wonder at which point being a publicly spirited individual turns into being a vigilante?
Not forgetting of course that legally and constitutionally, "it is the duty of every citizen when an arrestable offence is about to be committed in his presence to take whatever reasonable measures are available to him to prevent the commission of the crime"
Off you trot then Zulu - you must be itching to get at 'em after your earlier outburst.
Anybody watching Sky news. The rotund old bloke in full Sikh get up with a massive sword and a smile 🙂 guarding the temple.
Made me smile
Does anyone know where Met press releases can be read online? (Have tried the website, struggling to find press releases in their entirety).
fair play to the Sikhs!
Can I ask where you got that flat screen Sony TV from?
If that mob outside the temple doesn't disperse, the police will be forced to use their sikh heating missiles.

Erm.....internet?

Manchester today
Just in case things do kick off, just remember folks..
Thank god! Most of last nights nightshift, some time today and an hour or so of skimming tonight and I've finally reached the end of this thread.
Lots of different opinions on the why's and how's, some good wee jokes and some genuinely depressing posts, pics etc.
Mental. Thank god it doesn't seem to be catching on up here!!
So, in order: guy was carrying a gun, don't know the exact circs of him being shot but he was known to the cops, was carrying a gun and is now dead. Sorry for his family and that but what do you expect..
Causes of all this: too many to list, but see it all every day in my job, basically boils down folk not having any sense of personal responsibility.. Having weans left right and centre but not working and wanting benefits to pay for everything, not needing to work for a living etc.. Parents not giving a Ross about where or what their weans are doing.. Etc. Used to get to me but have realised no point getting upset about it.. They're not gonna change- don't want to.
Sorting it out: go in hard, water cannon, the works.. Shame it's not gonna happen!
Zulu-Eleven - thankyou. That's the Met one I found earlier - there must be more press releases about Mark Duggan than that? Unless it's only the IPCC ones?
Can't keep up this thread, has this been posted yet?
A friend suggested we send The Wurzels in on a combine harvester, with water cannons full of sleeping cider.
That woman is an idiot. Kate Burley and her should get a show together.

their accounts cannot necessarily be trusted and it's no wonder people feel angry/disillusioned with the police.

Am I the only one who frankly doesn't believe a bloody word the police say?
TandemJeremy - Member
possible over hyped police who shoot first and ask questions afterwards.
So, in essence, a distortion of posters' positions then.
Righto...as we were...
druidh - none of those say what you claim. Not even close.
Chaos in aberdeen,
Just for the record. My uncle was a senior met copper, my aunt and two cousins also were coppers, I have friends who are coppers. I have a great deal of respect for coppers.
Unfortunately after shooting incidents the coppers feel (quite possibly because they are at risk of criminal charges) - that they have to show their decision was correct. I would far prefer a "no fault" investigation into police shootings - there have been too many innocent folk shot and we need to know why to prevent it happening again. Putting the cops in a situation where they feel they have to cover it up means we don't get to the truth. Now this guy was not innocent it would appear but given previous incidents and the various statements and leaks it looks like an all too familiar pattern.
deMenezes, Harry Stanley, and a good few others others. In some of these there was clear evidence of the armed police lying.
given all that I think it is right to be sceptical of the police claims
TJ, you say that like any copper could be issued a gun and can basically go and shoot someone if he feels threatened, I think there is a bit more training goes into SO19.
TJ with all that copper in your family you will get looted for its scrap value
Just need to get this off of my chest, to those following this thread who 8 months ago had nothing but derogatory remarks to make about London's firefighters during our industrial dispute. Are we working hard enough for you yet?
Not aimed at anyone in particular.
Are we working hard enough for you yet?
Are you ****. Divisional headquarters is about 200 yards on the other side of the road from Reeves Corner in Croydon, but you guys let it burn for about an hour before rolling up and making a half-arsed attempt to put it out. What the **** were you doing - watching it on the telly ffs ?
so darkus howe has been on the wednesday weed since last week, bless im
Ernie.. Does divisional hq have units there or is it just an hq? Even if they do were there tenders in the station?
Perhaps they were off dealing with one of the many other calls that doubtless was in progress?
anyone else see gove throw a tantrum on newnight harman was being smug but that guy was a proper tool
It certainly does althepal, it's a fully operational fire station, my comment was tongue in cheek - I'm a big fan of our often under appreciated firefighters. Although what I said about it being only a few hundred yards the other side from the scene of the Reeves Corner fire is true - they were prevented from attending as their safety could not be assured.
Quite a few areas of London managed to organise vigilante groups last night to deter people from damaging their local areas. Maybe not the correct thing to do in the eyes of the law but well done to them.

And some on this site would have you believe that David Cameron's "big society" was all a fantasy 😉
manchester lout trying to start a riot at a celtic game .... result - glesgae kiss and a very sore face ....and a big cheer from the crowd !
oh and i think an armed guard and video camera operator with every fire crew attending riot fires .... if your filmed attacking the fire crew you are shot on sight ! you lost your human rights when you started attacking the firecrew in my eyes !
And some on this site would have you believe that David Cameron's "big society" was all a fantasy
Ah I see Zulu-Eleven, what we are witnessing is a Tory plan falling into place.
Good point and I'm glad that you made it.
Just need to get this off of my chest, to those following this thread who 8 months ago had nothing but derogatory remarks to make about London's firefighters during our industrial dispute.
My beef is with the management who decided you needed less appliances but more expensive ones through a fraudulent-PFI arrangement.
Personally I wouldn't want to fight ferocious fires with the risk of some mouth-breather throwing half-bricks at me. Firefighters here in Salford have that risk 365 days a year.
got it - we cant deploy the army to the streets as thats not really a good solution to the problem to shoot all the rioters (sorry theiving scumbags) BUT
use the army to protect the firebrigade ....
Vigilante groups are probably the only way out of this long term as they can be far quicker to respond than the police.
Their presence should be enough to deter most of the wasters causing the problems. I am thinking of a united community more than hit squads dealing out beatings to random hoodies.

One of the causes of the disaffection is a belief that some communities are policed differently to others. How is summary justice without order going to improve that, what happens when community defence groups start attacking each other, who decides who's guilty and innocent.
ivantate - As I said before - when does public spiritedness become vigilanteism?
Personally, I'd say the difference is that it only becomes vigilanteism if people take it unto themselves to dish out "justice" rather than limiting themselves to preventing crime/disorder and apprehending lawbreakers - and that the law is on their side in doing so (indeed, always has been)
cba reading all that, so apologies if the point's been made before, but has anybody considered the idea that it's all a setup by somebody within the police in order to create public support for the idea that police funding and numbers should be increased?

That's a hell of a conspiracy theory - Police shooting a man dead to spark civil unrest purely to keep their funding up? :-\
