Not sure if that’s just a feather, but there’s been a lot of cheeping coming from the Swift box, which the sparrows Co-opted earlier this year. They’ve already raised one brood, so hopefully they might get a couple more this year! They practically disappeared from the neighbourhood, though I could hear them occasionally from the surrounding houses, but they suddenly started turning up on the feeders in the tree out back, and lurking in my Pyrocanthus hedge out front, and I started seeing quite a lot of fledglings, and I couldn’t be happier to see them!

“Go on kid, jump!”
Yes, definitely fledglings in the Swift box, they’re sparrows, instead of the intended occupants. I’m hoping they might hatch a third brood this summer. It’s been years since there were any sparrows around my house and garden, now they’re around all the time, which is good news, a bird that developed a liking for human habitations, is now threatened by improvements for environmental reasons, so I’m chuffed that I’m helping just a little bit.
