Just saw some pics of the crash wreckage at bin ladens house and it looked like some sort of Steath helicopter which was apparently a "modified black hawk".

They must have done a heck of a lot of modifying.
Why use a stealth Helo in ****stan ? Doubt Bin Laden had radar capability.
Could it not be a recon drone ? Need a bit more image from over the wall.
So ****stani radar doesn't pick it up and they alert Bin Laden

The ****stani military do, and nobody told them they were coming.
i'm sure I made something similar in 1989. It took ages due to the many washing up liquid bottles needed, but Blue Peters plans were bang on! 😆

Thought to be the tail rotor unit, broken off and outside the compound.
I had that same wtf is THAT???? when I saw the pic on the news.
What is with the Americans and crashing helicopters on secret missions?
Tehran, Mogadishu and now Abbottabad.
Having googled stealth blackhawk i now see i was talking mince.
One image for Silent Hawk is very similar to the photo.
Silence or at least a reduction in noise would make more sense for a covert insertion, though a reduction in radar signature is no bad thing either. Dificult to do in a helo though.
Whoever put the dems charge on that and did not destroy it is in for some slagging. Not a blackhawk for sure.
Looks like the pilot chopped his tail off - oops!
More info about the crash here: http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-05-05/commando-black-hawk-downed-by-air-vortex-not-mechanics-in-bin-laden-raid.html
Keeping an eye out for better pictures. Wonder if anything will turn up on ebay.
If that first picture eventually turns out not to be a hoax, I'll recreate 2 girls 1 cup.
Even a chance to a radar signature would help, as they wouldn't necessarily know what it was.
I think it's a secret Rotavator and they were planning to re-seed the lawn!
"Two 160th additional MH-47 special operations Chinook helicopters provided back-up and assisted in flying out the raiders".
Probably not worth trying to make the Blackhawks too stealthy when they're being followed by two f*** off great chinooks.
I read somewhere it was destroyed by the seals themselves. I'd love to see such a beauty in real life.

Me too, though ideally not flying into my garden wall like that one did.
i doubt you could make a helicopter silent must be radar stuff
it deffinately didnt work as at least one local guy noticed the chopper
if a hovering helicopter was such a rare event i wonder why bin laden didnt run
maybe he just decided to surrender to american justice?
from the bbc
1. Silver finish makes it harder to detect on radar and by infrared sensors
2. Shape of tailboom has been altered and possibly enlarged to evade radar
3. Pan-like cover or hubcap over the rear rotor head conceals exposed machinery which is more easily picked up on radar
4. Extra blades on tail rotor reduce noise and lessen typical chopper sound
Rest of aircraft: There is speculation that the main rotor could also have had extra blades, retractable landing gear and a cover over the main rotor head
If that's a helicopter, then the pilot must be tidgy.
standard practice to thermite any downed aircraft in enemy territory to prevent coms equipment and weapons etc falling into enemy hands. Obviously with top secret aircraft the whole aircraft needs to be destroyed. Seems they didn't get to the tail as it was on the other side of the wall!
Some people are claiming it is not a modified blackhawk as there seems to be a lack of metal and it looks all composite but any aluminium would be destroyed by the high temps of thermite (if used) leaving chunks of the outer composite (what they would use to modify an aircraft) would still be detectable along with charred carbon fibres. The tail boom could be complete composite.
Or it could be a whole new aircraft.
This picture is quite cool though (made up)
I read somewhere it was destroyed by the seals themselves.
Probably was, but you'd like to think a crack team of commandos, presumably with explosives training with a top secret chopper that was probably laced with explosives for such a situation could have been destroyed a touch better than that. I'd have expected a million little bits of carbon.
Not as if they didn't have the time, they did have a rake around and gte documents, hard drives etc. etc.
What always amazes me is whats in the pipeline and whats about that we don't know about. For example I remember the Blackbird appearing at air shows in the late 70's or maybe early 80's, by which time it was getting near the end of its operational life, and in fact the stealth bombers and what not where already about, albeit we weren't going to find about them for some time. If you had told me that the blackbird had been around since the early 60's I would have laughed. so whats next?
sharks with frikking lazer beams ....
They have been shooting stuff down with lasers ..but training sharks?? 😯
Surely that thing in the OP is home-made?
One thing to remember is the US will be absolutely loving all the speculation going round as even just the possibility of a stealth chopper with the ability to sneak up on terrorists makes people worried.

Dolphins more likely
Armed dolphins
it's a drone.
quite possibly a reaper or a modified version of
.....drone dolphin ?? 😯
so long and thanks for all the fish
It's a reaper

Ha Ha...took me a while to realise it was just the tail too 😆
Like...duh
can reapers hover id assumed not but surely youd want something that could hover over the compound
