The dog shit bothers me the most. An elderly friend near me recently moved out of her house - one of the prime reasons being that dog walkers in the alley behind her house used to routinely lob the shit bags over the wall and into her garden, and she got fed up with picking them all up every day.

The absolute contempt for other people is just boggling.

When my son is riding at Hillingdon a group of us clean the park. Every week its mad the amount which is about.

I wrote to the council as as a club we are expected to keep the place clean and tidy, but its an uphill slog. Scary the amount of booze bottles and wet-wipes in this park. I have been told the wet-wipes are left by prostitutes.

and this is a place kids, families and dog walkers can go. Yeah right.

It's that time of year again when groups of young people gather in the park near me in the evenings, have fires and get wasted.

Never known there not to be an associated pile of crap and bottles and wrappers and other mess left where they were.

Little litter islands all over the park, every morning in the warm weather.

Another bag, the bulk of this one was a large empty cardboard box of catering sized nitrous cylinders, at least the inevitable big blue ones are easier to pick up than the small silver ones!

Just to balance out that cyclists aren't all saints. Here is a half filled trug from Southampton Bike Park. Mostly from the area where people sit to chat and recover. To be fair, this was everything I could find on the Monday after a really warm weekend with probably several hundred visitors over the weekend.

I also used a litter picker to clear the road sides from my house to the Bike Park but the little has built up again so I will probably go back out and pick today.

I have just done another litter sweep around the Southampton Bike Park. I used to do them every couple of weeks but this is the first for about 4 weeks as the Bike Park is closed for some major upgrades so I thought there would be less litter.

The previous post was 2 weeks of rubbish after hundreds of riders in beautiful sunshine.

Scum landlords 101.

Local developer/landlord - heritage mill with nice grounds. Used to have a litter bin that rusted and fell over, wasn't replaced. Locals put up an impromptu bag holder that quickly filled up. Small amount of bags built up despite the landlord having a large skip and groundsman.
Next thing impromptu bin disappeared and private land sign appeared in its place.

Conversation with groundsman hasn't got anyway so **** you - tidy your own precious land.

I get the green coloured bags from Civicpride - it's an organisation in Rossendale that have massively improved the area through litter picking and planting gardens/flower beds etc. The council provided them to Civicpride.

RNP - you've inspired me to get out into our canoe and start to clean up the 2 local canals.
We've noticed that after lock down, lots of people have discovered the countryside, but still bringing their filthy habits with them.

Of course its anecdotal, but red Bull cans are by far the most prolific litter I see from local trails to motorways to Highland road sides.  I notice they even "support" Keep Britain Tidy (along with the D**ly M**l ) and one thing that irks me so much is they use **** all of their immense media creativity, athlete influence and raw budget to highlight the issue.

Went for a paddleboard on my local lake last night - on the far beach I stopped and moved various bits (towel, shorts, socks, bottles, empty food packets) that had been left on the shore into the bin a few yards away. I couldn't reach the bra that ways hanging 10ft high in the tree

Picked a few hotspots around the local park on Sunday while walking the dog.

The spot by the river had discarded towels, socks, pants and masks, amongst the usual beer cans and soft drinks bottles.

Further into the park we had flourescent plastic shot glasses all over the grass with plastic cups, barbeque chemtrails, then all the normal shit that the yoot like to leave.

I feel like when I see these groups gathering in the warm evenings like I want to go up to them and give them some bin bags to save them having to carry their empties 20 yards to a bin, but I guess I might get knifed... 🤔

I compartmentalise it to stop it turning into a full time job. Generally don't do it systematically on bike rides, saving it for walks instead - either specifically going out with a bag and grabber or building it into the point of the trip, e.g a local woodland bivi two weeks ago when I walked out from the door in the evening, then retraced my steps in the morning, cleaning out all the crap along the way.

I have to say, though, that the litter situation where I am now (South Wales) is so apocalyptic that it's contributed to me deciding '**** this' and I will shortly be relocating to Calderdale...

Too big for my 70l rucsac, so I tied it under the straps for the walk home.

I nearly wrote pretty much the same thing a couple of weeks back.
I’m not sure if it’s just the colour scheme catching my eye or a bit of bias but I was sure there were more Red Bull cans than anything else making up the litter around me.
I went out with my other half last week on the bikes and on a local road climb I counted 29 Red Bull cans in the verge. I’d go back and pick them up but it a 50mph road where the locals like to tear up the hill at silly speeds so I’ll be giving it a miss.

Red Bull, Monster, McD's, Costa are my usuals in no particular order - it's never Fortnum & Masons or Waitrose own brand......

Last week the missus and I were walking along the TPT near Barnsley when we spotted a teenage lad emerging from some trees. My first thoughts were not positive but he was actually collecting litter on his walk. Top lad. We plan to do the same over the next few weeks.

I picked up a wake of McDonald's packaging around a bin in park this morning, moaning to a passing lady about humans.

She pointed out that it was usually foxes routing about overnight.
