I'm calling vintage pre '95.

The only item I have is this:

[img] [/img]

But I'd love to own some period separates.

Let's have a look at your stash.

Had the MD deck since new (2000 according to minidisc.org). Tape deck was £12 off ebay a few years ago when my separates one died.
(Packing blanket is down to me currently decorating!)

No pics, but...

NAD 3020i amp from around '94, as well as some TDL RTLII MK2 speakers and a Luxman D322 cd player from around the same time.

I've got a portable CD player in the loft, but it's from around '99.

Back at my Mum and Dad's I've got a Hitachi 3D superwoofer ghetto blaster with twin tape deck. That must be from around '91-'92 I reckon.

I used to use this

Which was my granddad's, I replaced it in about 2005.

I still use the turntable though

It could do with a new cartridge and I'm sure there's plenty out there that sound better, but partly for sentimental reasons & because it's a nice thing. Early 80s I think.

For a while I used this Dual CS 505 while I was waiting to recommission the Beogram. Early 80s I think as well.

I have that Dual turntable in the attic, bought it in 1982. If we ever listen to vinyl nowadays we still use the wife’s systemdek 11 from a similar age. They used to have one in the National museum of Scotland in Edinburgh.

8000A is 80s, I've had it since mid 90s. NAD turntable might scrape in too, think I bought it around 96? Much missed Celestion Ditton 33s not in pic, OH mothballed them saying they were ugly...

My turbo set up at work has a pair of Bose 802's which are from the mid 80's. We've still got a few AKG 451 mics in regular use which sound really nice to this day. they were pretty much tv studio standard in the 70's and 80's. We've a few minidisk and twin cassette decks somewhere on a shelf.

That's exactly what the REAL glen Quagmire would have.

With the hifi rack next to his sheepskin rug. Giggity!

Arcam Alpha 9. Not as old as some but old enough. Great CD deck as well.

Still using Dual 505/2, in fact I've just replaced the amp leads. Plus, a NAD CD player and a Cambridge Audio amp from around the same vintage (about 1990?). They sound great - far superior to friends' streaming-type equipment.

My dad had that same B&O (along with several other bits of B&O including TV, video recorder etc). We were incredibly fortunate that he worked as a TV engineer and could get massive discount on it

In the loft I have a Technics CD player, Yamaha Amp and a pair of Acoustic Research speakers dating from 1988, a JVC turntable from early 1989 and a Kenwood cassette deck from later 1989 all neatly packed away in their original boxes and polystyrene.

They will be redeployed later this year.....

Picked these (Mission 760i) and an Onkyo receiver up the other day for 40 euro. Not critically listened to them yet, but they certainly don't seem to get in the way of the music yet vs modern bookshelf speakers or my DIY ones either.

Mission 760i look back

Got a Marantz tuner from late 70's connected to and old (but not retro) Yamaha 5.1 amp with some Cerwin Vega speakers in my kitchen / dining room.

My Wharfdale Diamond 9.5's are also old.... but not vintage.

When you see the "thrift store" bargains the Yanks get - Sansui / Marantz / Technics, for very little...... dust off, new pots and caps, LED replacements etc.... And then how much they go for. My Gawd. A friend has an old Marantz amp restored, something like 20w per channel but jesus it's got some power to it. 20 actual watts as opposed to the 150w "power" they market now!

At home we still user the ARCAM Alpha amp, DENON CD Player and a DENON Tuner (no DAB). The turntable - a Linn Axis still gets used. Bought late 80's. The cassette deck was given away and replaced with a Chrome Audio device. Speakers are JPW P1s which really need to be replaced!

A Linn turntable bought in the '80s the cheapest must have been about 1.5 k a lot of dosh back then, do you notice a huge difference from a Rega for eg at a 1/4 of the price?

Don't own a CD player (in fact, I don't have any way of playing them since the PS3 died), as I've never bought any CDs. But I was considering picking up a semi decent cassette deck to check out some of the hundreds of mixtapes I've got stashed at my dad's. Then found out they all went down the tip! Gutted doesn't do it justice. If only he'd just kept the box inserts (doubt there were many that were properly written out though).

Bugger.

No photos, but I have a Logic DM101 t/table with Zeta tonearm and Audio Technica MC cartridge, Rotel RC870 preamp into Crimson monobloc poweramps, with Trio LS-770 three-way speakers on Foundation stands, Denon DCD1500 CD player and Aiwa AD-F770 cassette deck.
All are roughly 1982-4.
I also have a Minidisc deck that looks identical to DezB’s! Mine’s an MDS-JB940.
Fantastic deck, all sorts of editing functions, auto fade-in/out with control of fade length for example, and titles can be added with a computer keyboard plugged in.
Edit - these are the speaker, marked Kenwood, but were Trio here...

Logic t/table, but with a different arm. Not mine...

Denon CD player...

Rotel preamp...

Aiwa cassette recorder...

@ gofasterstripes - that Aiwa deck is very good, the layout of the controls is really ergonomic, although they do collect dust! It has Dolby B and C, with three heads so that it’s possible to monitor the recording as it’s being made, and it has an auto-bias system, so it can be set up to get the best from any given tape, although I used to use chrome and metal tapes usually from Maxell and TDK. It even has a plug-in IR remote, which makes operation even easier for the inherently lazy like me.

Can't work out how to get the direct link from the imgur android app anymore, so can't manage to post pics.

However, currently listening to Spirit Of Eden on my Dual CS-505 turntable, through my Denon PMA255UK amp (too modern to qualify for this thread) and out of my JBL Control 5 speakers.

Here's my 1980-ish Optonica SM-7100, now powering the garage sound system with input from a Chromecast Audio

Originally paired with some AR-93s but now through a pair of KEF K130s - late 80s, I think.

The Planar 3 which originally went with them now feeds a Linn Classik and a pair of Linn Kans.

<edit IMGBB wasn't working, switched to Flikr>

Nice pic of the Trio stuff Beagleboy. I've got my Dad's old setup which he bought in 1978 i think (minus tape deck). Deck works well, but the amp and tuner went pop. Been meaning to have the amp looked at. Infact none of it is currently in use.

I've got several other turntables/bits on the go including three Technics 1210 MK5Gs but no pics currently.
