on some peoples profile name it seems to link them to the user info page;

totally random example - for jon1973 it links to

http://www.singletrackworld.com/members/jon1973/

but on a few there seems to be a link to an external website. How do you do this? It seems more than just adding your website url to the website box in your profile. Any ideas?

it's only available to premium uses, but yes I think setting the website URL is how we did it for Mrs NBT

yes, such as the OP, but not me, so I can't check how I did it till I get home and can check Mrs NBT's account. Make sense now?

So why does nbt not have any link on his name?

No profile presumably?

@nbt - that doesn't work for me, and I can't find any setting that seem to link to an external url.

Would appreciate if you could check though....

Random guess, does it need the leading 'http://' in order to recognise it as an absolute URL?

it seems to add that in automatically when you put in the url cougar, but I did try and do it manually and no cigar.

I'm not a premium user and my name links to an external site. All I've done is fill in the Website field in the profile.

How odd, I just added a website to my profile and now my name links to my profile - not the website I specified. Mebbe's it's a bug?

I'll look into it as soon as I get a chance and post back here.

Just a guess but based on nbt's changes I reckon:

• if you haven't filled in any public profile details at all then your name doesn't get linked.
• if you only fill in a website and nothing else then your name is a link to that website.
• if you fill in a website and other details then your name is a link to your profile (which lists those other details and the website).

Which would all make sense, but not be terribly intuitive.

Right - I've looked into it. Seems like this facility was being abused quite a bit in the past so It was disabled. We didn't remove the existing innocent URLs, hence the discrepancy.

Users can still access your personal website by viewing your profile and this way the target url is clearly visible before it's clicked.
eg: http://www.singletrackworld.com/members/jon1973/

Hope that makes sense.
