Any plumbers on here?

I'm starting to wonder if my good mate who retrained as a plumber about 5 years ago is doing me over when it comes to charging me for jobs he's done. So anyone any idea what a fair price for replacing a broken PCB (primary circuit board maybe??) in a combi boiler would be? He came out once to have a look and diagnose the problem then again today to fit the new part he had to order in. Don't know how long it took him today because we just left the key for him.

I'm not after a mate's rate from him just the price I'd pay from a reputable plumber I didn't know as a friend.

Can't answer your question, but I think your definition of "good mate" differs to mine if he's charging you for his time. If I'd charged mates for the IT work I've done for various people over the years, I could have retired by now (though perhaps that speaks more about IT work than it does about mates...)

I paid nearly £250 for a similar job, including parts, from a guy I use regularly (I'm a landlord with a handful of houses) who is very reasonable on other jobs. The board itself was not cheap, so prob £100ish in [s]labour[/s] expertise and time.

PCBs are often around £100 ish, and a minimum of a half day charge for getting out of bed gets you to £175-£250 pretty easily depending on where you are.

The last plumber I used charged me £80 an hour.

Cheers for the quick replies. STW comes through yet again. He's left me a bill for £225 so that seems about right.

I can rest easy now.

but he's your mate. if I was your mate I would ask for no more than the cost of the part and a brace of my favourite beer.

EDIT: but the thant depends on how much of a mate you are to him I suppose
