How much have Reform cost the UK in terms of by-elections?

This total should be calculated and plastered over every available billboard. "Vote Reform, cost the UK money"

Not normally one to praise Restore but that is clever, and if others follow suit then even better. Also, how is Farage standing in one of the most Reform-ey and Brexity constituencies a mandate of Farage vs the establishment. It's as rigged as doing a poll on the Kop asking who the greatest team the world has ever seen is.

Libdems, tories and Labour all are now saying they will sit it out. Hopefully the Greens will join in.

Ed Davey has suggested, not sure completely seriously, that the government should block his resignation. One of those weird historical quirks is that an MP cant actually resign. Instead the chancellor appoints them to a stewards position which makes them invalid to be an MP.

So Reeves could go out on a high here by going "send me your cv and I will think about it".

I thought this was quite a canny move by Farage but with the other parties not standing, he will now just look like a right plonker. Turns out this is probably a spectacular own goal.

It's ironic that the role he most wanted, that of MP (and which he tried so hard for so many years to get) should be his downfall.

I hope this prompts a whole raft of extra media scrutiny. I almost hope he gets re-elected just so the investigations into his dodgy dealings can start up again.

**** knows what the family of Jo Cox thinks of his claims of being the most attacked politician.

And seeing his outbursts at journalists recently, could he ever be PM?

I just wish he'd go away a very long way away.

It was always pretty pants thou, a supposed mandate given by the people if he did win doesn’t stop him being suspended and having to do it all again.

I’m wondering if it’s being done to try and cool the scrutiny on the the news around him as  slightly different reporting rules apply, perhaps the poking around was heading towards things they really don’t want in the public to get wind of.

Of course it could just be showtime,Farage loved turning up and doing drama as an MEP for the content, he wasn’t unknown for making speeches that didn’t have much to do with the subject being discussed but purely done for video clips to be shared with his followers.

He can’t do his TV show thou.

There’s  3 years to the election so it’s probably a more longer game they are playing, he can still do a Gary Glitter comeback in the future 🙂

So Nige's resignation delayed, ongoing investigation continues, check mate?

Another vote for Binface here.

I’m conflicted 😐, I d love to see Binface win as his speech will be brutal to Farage but I’d also find it funny for Farage to win and then be caught out with any further changes to second jobs which means he can’t do them any more  :-).

I don’t think our Nige would be that keen on being an MP without all the nice other jobs.

Honest Bobby Jenrick and various other Reform people are using the same cut n paste post on FB proclaiming how Farage will face the people rarher than the "kangaroo court in parliament"

Their supporters disagree that disrespecting the democratic parliamentary process is not patriotic, and verging on traitorous.

I like the idea that Newsthump put to have an independent stand on an anti corruption policy.

Might get people out and voting.

Nope - he would beat them and claim victory against "elite false corruption accusation party"

"They can't even beat me on this issue"

Just leave him and the comedy candidates with sad clown music in the background

I actually quite like Restore's response - we won't stand in this pantomime you've just caused, but we'll stand against you at the next one after the Parliamentary hearing suspends you.

There's something properly whiffy about that George Cottrell bloke, was in the press earlier this year in some betting syndicate suing Tony Bloom, the owner of Brighton and Hove Albion, some high rolling action.....

There's a lot I don't know much about Count Binface, such as his policies and views on the Birmingham bin strike or if he as ever received a bung but like as said above, he's infinitely more electable.

Or just turn and face East and start walking until his hat floats.

Good riddance to the batrachian member for Clacton & Innsmouth…

Must have been a tricky decision for the Count.  He is a satirical candidate who runs to expose the hypocrisy and stupidity of mainstream politics, and it can be argued that that objective is already achieved in this election (if it happens). But by not running he would be siding with the mainstream.  He doesn't want to be seen as the serious one...

Perhaps he has a deal with the refuse collectors and skims off 20% of their Christmas tips! Particularly the thick Fox's chocolate selection I hear.

I dunno hes all about holding up a mirror to the silliness of politicians and theres no one sillier (or more corrupt) than Farage

And Farage IS mainstream, currently polling highest of any party more appearances on newsnight than fiona Bruce, a public schoolboy, former city trader cum career politician, Celebrity jungle not noncense, 5 homes, millions in dodgy donations, a show on Gbnews....

whats interesting is first the Times now both GBNews & The Telegraph are calling him out, they sense that the corruption is catching up with him

both GBNews & The Telegraph are calling him out,

I'm struggling a bit with this. GB News' point in life is surely to be the natural home for the **** stains that vote for Farage to get some confirmation bias and have their tummy rubbed that being a racist misogynistic smear of shit of socially ok.

If you pull down your populist politician (that's also one of your in-house mouthpieces), what are you for? It's like the court jester stabbing the king in the back.

Ultimately journalists are sharks. They might well trained enough to mostly bite one side, but with enough blood in the water they'll revert to type.

Listening to R5 just now & they really live on a different planet - Danny Kruger saying they have been trying to engineer a by-electon for months.

All completely ignoring the basic facts.

Danny Kruger saying they have been trying to engineer a by-electon for months.

Did he explain why? Plus it makes them look even worse if they had been planning this for months but didnt think through the likely responses.

If he had done it in a hissy fit/panic then it would be understandable to have missed the "what if no one else plays along" option but planning it for months is a tad incompetent eg include in a line directly challenging the other parties to turn up to pre-empt what they did.

Restore Britain will stand in the Clacton by-election. Not the first Farage has just called, but the second one, held later this year, when the investigations into Farage’s finances conclude as we all suspect it will.

We are not going to participate in a Reform-sponsored media circus over the summer months that is designed to puff up Farage’s ego and deflect away from wholly fair questions over why he has concealed such vast and irregular financial donations.

Farage can play with his toys for the next six weeks, but Restore Britain is going to continue producing detailed policy papers, exactly as we have been, outlining how we can fix our country.

That is what I am interested in.

Detail. Data. Policy.

A plan.

I feel for the people of Clacton who deserve so much better than this unnecessary sham forced on them throughout their summer.

**** Me

I've just agreed with Rupert Lowe

That's deliberately concealing the main story, which is the investigation into Farage.

The Clacton by-election has become the story because the media can't help their base instincts, even at a one-sided press conference.

By-election + allegations concealed = Reform win

The problem is that the other parties aren't playing and the bigger story is set to become no competition, followed with a second by-election with Farage mired in investigation (again).

I watched the start of that. Once she told Victoria Derbyshire to "Hang on a minute [because I'm a gobby shite and want to carry on ranting] something something something"  I switched it off and went to bed.

I think Lowe's played a blinder.

The thing a lot of folk are missing is that if an anti-Farage candidate beats him, the parliamentary scrutiny goes on hold indefinitely. Unless the Police have something, which would be a higher bar,  he can disappear into the background with his money and continue to throw shit all over.

It may be better for Farage to get back in so the enquiry can continue.
