Watched the Irishman yesterday, 3.5 hours of my life I’m not getting back.
3.5 Hours!
We struggle to find time to watch a 2h movie....
^unless you’re a fan of Carrie-Anne Moss, I wouldn’t bother. It also develops the Trish/Patsy character, but I found her almost as unsympathetic as the lead. I’ve given up on S3 as it just gets worse IMO.
Thanks, thought it might go that way. Needs a proper villain.
This thing where netflickers are putting a film in cinemas and streaming it from the same date, I don't like it. The Two Popes is very good, not sure I'd have seen it in the cinema had I known.
My mistake, it's streaming later in Dec. Glad to have seen it big screened.
Quirky documentary on Prime - it's from 2016 though, and shit happens so fast in the world these days...
Follow The Money - a group of British docu-makers takes a 10 dollar bill to the geographical centre of the U.S. (South Dakota IIRC) and follow it and its temporary owners on its journey. Some wonderful and strange and likeable characters in there. I've watched around half of it so far and what I've seen has been good fun. Give it a try.
The second series of Final Space has just dropped on Netflix. I'm only one episode in and it's easily as good as the first. Hopefully it carries on in that vein.
The best thing on any of the streaming outlets is....
The Apprentice "Honest Subtitles"
Small parcels of joy
The Irishman was ok I thought not great. I couldn’t stop wondering what was up with De Niro’s eyes some sort of colored contacts or something?
The eyes were part of the deaging thing.
They start off very bright, and end up milky.
Prisoner on Netflix
Proper slow burn thriller directed by Denis Villeneuve with Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal. Very good acting and script. Excellent plot that twists and turns like a twisty-turny thing.
I thought The Irishman was great. The deaging thing is a distraction best ignored really.
It’s not Goodfellas 2, I’ve heard complaints that it’s “not much of a gangster film” it’s not really. It’s verging on Docudrama.
Wasn’t too long, we’ll until the last 15 mins or so which dragged a bit.

Agreed. The problem with it was that they still walked like old men, but it didn't detract from an excellent film. Pacino even managed to reign in his shouty over acting.

Watch it in too halves that’s what I’ve done.
I’m enjoying Orphan Black
Enjoyed Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat. Especially the Fat (olive oil) episode as it’s filmed in Liguria, Italy. Stunning in 4K and makes me want to go back to Rivierabike!
I thought The Irishman was pretty good, as has been said not much actual gangster action and not really anything new in terms of plot but worth watching all the same. Probably would have been disappointed if I'd paid to watch it in a cinema though.
Made it to episode 3 of Jack Ryan and got bored. Worth persevering?
Not sure if it has been mentioned before, but for those watching Mind Hunter, on Sky there is a documentary on Ed Kemper. Kemper on Kemper I think it was called. Well worth watching. The mannerisms and tone are exemplified perfectly in Mind Hunter.

I binge watched both series last week, on the whole it's pretty good. It's very formulaic and has a fair few moments that challenge credibility/the laws of physics but some good characters and well acted. I never really got into shows like 24 but the Jack Ryan series have less episodes and once s1 gets going (probably at e3) it sustains it well.
innocuously stumbled across Dolemite is my Name the other day, thought id stick it on to see what it was like... couldnt stop watching, best film ive seen in ages!!
been calling everyone/everything a mother****er ever since...!
was late to the party but finished watching all 5 series of People Just Do Nothing. brilliant tele! apparently there will be no more which is a shame but there is a movie on the way!
Just started watching The Spy. Not a big laugh but really good.
Damnation - a drama about a group of farmers striking in 1930's midwest America.
This got pretty violent very quickly and had me hooked, burnt through the whole 10 episodes in a week of train commutes!
No series 2 though ☹️
Just started watching The Spy. Not a big laugh but really good.
Really good and I now have a new found respect for Sacha Baron Cohen.
Marcella seems good, only watched 3 episodes, but started well...
Not Netflix but well worth a viewing on iplayer - Ladhood. Its brilliant! Its just 6 episodes and we did them in one sitting. Genuinely laugh out loud funny. A thirty-something trying to analyse the dysfunctional aspects of his own character and masculinity generally by flashbacks to his youth, growing up in Leeds
just finished 'Who killed Little Gregory' not really into crime documentaries but her indoors does within 10 min i was hooked even had to google if it really was a true story!! massive twists and intrigue and unbelievably all true!
Definitely recommend but its a limited release so not sure how long will be on for.

been calling everyone/everything a **** ever since…!
I've been meaning to watch it for ages, but for some reason I haven't yet.
In fairness though, I've been using MF multiple times as day since I saw Richard Prior (on Video) as a teen.
not sure if its been mentioned already but we're really enjoying narcos, drama series based on true story of pablo escobar and the columbian cartels. really good tv with flashbacks to old tv footage.
"Mid90s" - Jonah Hill's little film about a kid getting in with a bunch of skaters is on Netflix. Just found it, watched it, loved it. Cool as. (ie. not likely to get it's own thread 😉 )
If you've not seen it and are interested in design, Abstract is just an absolutely fantastic series.

It follows a specialist in each episode in their work, including architect, stage designer, typeface design, toy designer etc, etc.
It really is absolutely fascinating and really, really inspiring.
Totally recommend it.
If you like bonkers body horror blended with unpredictable plotting then you can do worse than The Perfection.
Bound to offend someone - I really enjoyed it and had no clue where it was going.
Bits of Cronenberg dotted around but with a shiny veneer.
Destination wedding, thought I'd hate it, loved it
The Expanse is back - new Amazon Prime backed series (no 4)
The Witcher seems like it might be Ok watched episode 1 yesterday.
Strongly recommend Hail Satan?
Documentary movie about the satanic temple, possibly not what you'd expect if you were not familiar with the story already.
Watched a couple of episodes of The Witcher on the ferry crossing today, seemed ok, have read it's a nod towards Game of Thrones, which without Sky has passed me by.
have read it’s a nod towards Game of Thrones, which without Sky has passed me by.
The Witcher books came out first I think. I know it from the game.
Gave up on The Witcher after two episodes. I had no idea what was going on.
Not a Netflix production but is now on Netflix. I downloaded the Death of Stalin for my Eurostar trip home on Thursday. Very good fun and well worth a watch.
I don't know if it's already been mentioned but we watched Lion last night. Amazing story, emotional and absorbing. The little guy who plays the main character is outstanding. I've also been watching Ken Burns WW2 series which is very time consuming but so much information and some incredible personal stories.
+1 for Mid 90s
Cracking coming of age film that avoids a lot of the associated clichés.
I often hear there is better content on the US Netflix. What are we missing here in the UK?
Can’t remember where I picked up a review of it, but I watched Marriage Story last week. [Just checked: Average Review 8.2 Metascore 93 on IMDb 😲] Scarlet Johansson and Adam Driver are both excellent in it, as are the co-starring Dern, Liotta and Alda.
No super-hero stuff, no special effects, just a nice incisive study of a break-up. Some lovely comedy moments thrown in along the way that elevate it from melodrama.
Not a recommendation but I babysat for some friends a week or so ago. Had a few Netflix things on my mental to-watch list. It’s hilarious switching on someone else’s Netflix isn’t it? 😀 There’s all this stuff on there that you’ve never seen or even realised existed.
Watched a couple of the Witcher, started well, I have a feeling it will fall to cliche soon though and get a bit dull. Still, Boobies

The Witcher isn’t on the same level
all, it’s hilariously bad - to the point that I’m surprised Netflix even signed off on its final release.
I switched Witcher off after 10mins it was dreadful !
After ignoring The Kominsky Method for months I'm enjoying it greatly.

Amateur. I lasted 20..

I believe they have signed up another series. We’re watching it. It’s alright but nothing more.

I watched Ep 1. It is hilariously bad. I think I'll keep watching it just for laughs.
I actually can’t believe I watched the entire first episode of The Witcher.
Ruined my night shift..
The Expanse is back – new Amazon Prime backed series (no 4)
Yes and it was excellent, watched it over 3 nights
Saw the trailer for The Witcher, it looks terrible - unless you're particularly fond of video game cut scenes.
Has Godless had a mention? Gritty cowboy/girl mini-series.
Death of Stalin is good.
...as is The Square, which won a Palme d'Or and tonks nicely along (dead easy this film critic lark).
I'm two episodes into The Witcher and enjoying it! Not sure why it's working for me. I didn't get as far with the GoTs series tbh, so...weird!
I think I like the fact that everyone seems to think that they're acting in an entirely different series lol
Don't f with cats is 2019s making a murderer
I'm enjoying The Witcher but it's not as good as I was hoping it would be. Maybe it will get into its stride towards the end... Or next series.
Watched a dance music doc called "What We Started" last night, bit of a mixed bag but some good vintage stuff and input from Carl Cox - who was the "star" along with Martin Garrix.
Worth a watch if you're interested or were there BITD, but overall a bit unfocused and superficial (apart from an emotional bit about Coxy).
Wife and I are really enjoying sex education currently.
Don't **** With Cats was as disturbing as it was unswitchoffable! I binge watched that one
Don’t **** With Cats
I've started that. It's mad!
Wife and I are really enjoying sex education currently.
Fair play. Could do with some of that myself.
I watched Ep 2 of The Witcher. It was even stupider than Ep 1. Not often we are blessed with something so hilariously dumb.
Saw the trailer for The Witcher, it looks terrible
Watched about ten minutes of the first episode. It's mesmerically awful at just about every level you can think of. There is worse though. I somehow started watching a Korean (I think) series about a vampire who works as a military doctor, then becomes a top surgical resident. I thought it was very promising, but it mysteriously disappeared from our list, probably due to occult intervention.
More positively I'm quite liking Russian Doll in a Groundhog Day gone slightly darker way. And Bad Omens on Prime. Watched the first couple of episodes of The Spy and thought it was good, but kind of destined to be harrowing, which I wasn't really in the mood for.
Oh, and the US version of Shameless is ace.
We watched Snatch again last night. Nearly 20 years old and still a great film.
The Movies That Made Us is a good fun series. Watched Home Alone and Ghostbusters (not Ghostbreakers!). Die Hard is next!
Watched about ten minutes of the first episode. It’s mesmerically awful at just about every level you can think of.
I lasted 20 mins. Whenever I saw Henry Cavill pouting with long hair and a sword on his shoulder I thought I was watching Zaphod Beeblebrox from the TV series of HHGTTG, and that it was the sword doing all the acting.
Literally cannot stop watching Don't f with Cats.
the witcher, good god wtf a really bad princess convention.
I often hear there is better content on the US Netflix. What are we missing here in the UK?
There used to be a fair bit more choice on the US netflix, but with more content creators pulling their programming off netflix, it isn't that much different anymore, there especially used to be a massive range of documentaries on the US version that we were not getting, now nowhere near as many. Which is a great shame, because browsing netflix brought my attention to some documentaries that I would never have seen otherwise, now I guess in future they will once again go undiscovered.
Netflix is doomed IMO, I hadn't subscribed for the last 6 months, just joined up again for Christmas, and have found nothing I want to watch, everything is just so sub standard, for the money they are supposed to be pumping into original content, they are really failing to deliver. With the debt they have, and more competition, they will be gone in 5 years.
Netflix is excellent IMO Im glad I continue to subscribe. I always find something I want to watch. Everything is of such a high standard. For the money they continue to pump money into original content. The Irishman wouldn't have made it into production had it not been for them. They are really continuing to deliver. Atypical, Ozark Better Call Saul, The Kominsky Method, The Barkley Marathons, Unsolved, Mindhunter, Manhunt.....
With the debt they have, and more competition, I hope they survive. 🙂
From a family friendly point of view I would recommend Klaus...an animated, slightly gothic Father Christmas origins story type thing.
The Irishman wouldn’t have made it into production had it not been for them.
There is a reason for that, it just isn't very good. It is like a long past it band getting back together for a money making last tour, but they can't sing the notes or keep the rhythm they once could, some might see it through nostalgic rose tinted spectacles, but for most it's just sad to see how far they have fallen from their heydays.
And the barkley marathon wasn't Netflix original content.

That's not the reason it wouldn't have got made - it's on record the studios wouldn't fund it. Not because they didn't believe it was going to be any good or not - they didn't want to sink that cash into it.
Sure I was disappointed with it - and this golden era of Netflix sinking tonnes of money into lots of risky ventures will not last forever but it's certainly not a bad thing for viewers.
I agree with your sentiment but it's certainly not the reason.
And the barkley marathon wasn’t Netflix original content.
And the other numerous series?
Relax your sphincter, would you rather watch ITV?
Honestly, some folk are never happy.
Not Netflix .. but NowTV. Der Pass. A German series with subtitles. Its very good; wife and I both enjoyed it.
I just finished Ep 3 of The Witcher. I was worried they'd run out of stupid, but it didn't disappoint, even more stupid than Ep 1 and 2. Piglet has a bad time at work, people won't accept her for who she is because she's horribly deformed, so she gets cosmetic surgery, transforms into a smoking hot babe, and shags the boss, while Superman has to deal with a literally walking abortion that he magically transforms into a smoking hot babe. He also shags another smoking hot babe.
