We will be in touch
Well, after securing a better Settlement than the measley £350 per year I was being offered, I reckon I can now survive without work for 12 - 18 months. I'll be looking out for any opportunities but I'm wondering at 46 if I'm too old for a career change? I also only have an HND not a degree (thanks in part to the crappy Comp. I went to) although my education (3 R's) seems almost out of place these days. I thought about teaching but not sure I can achieve the qualifications within the timespan.
So any suggestions as to what might be a good way to go?
I think I need to speak to a decent Careers Adviser for adults - any recommendations?
Many thanks as always T
If you want to teach, they're now looking at fast tracking people from 'the real world' into the education system. I know there's a shortage of science related teachers..
I moved from IT to nursing. Have just qualified and I'm in the process of going to Oz for 12 months, starting in August. Huge career change. Best move I ever did.
Go for it.
ah careers advice ....gingerly holds up hand and awaits e-mail
Never to old to change career and your age should not be a barrier in most professions these days + the age discrimination act is a bit of help.
Wherever you live there will be an adult careers adviser best start at the Job Centre+ for local info (possibly free possibly fee of maximum of £50 per hour ish)
They will probably do some psychometrics on you …questions to see hat careers you are suited to and then explain progression routes etc. Education is not a bad option if you do something with a bursary (£6000 per annum ish for teaching, social work and some health occupations).
Your HND can be converted to a degree with a year of study …depends what you did how easy this is and if no recent evidence of study may be harder but you could do PT or pay the fees yourself depending on what you want to do.
Teaching will want a degree unless you do a practical occupation in which case you can do other quals and teach in the 16 + (FE) sector
