Following the long delays many hours and people trapped on the motorway after a calor gas LPG tanker decided to catch fire recently, tonight we have a large artic tanker on its side spilling a liquid from its load tank, huge exclusion zone no fire as yet, just avoid the m56 and between warrington and Hapsford Ellesmere port

What is it about that stretch of motorway that causes so many accidents? Must be at least once a week the east bound had a crash on it and queued back past the M53 junction.

I use it most days. The standard of driving I witness on every occasion has to be seen to be believed.

Yeah Surfer has it!

I use it a lot with work as we run out of Eastham, there are a lot of cars trying to join the motorway at various junctions, this then causes bottle necks, then they just plant the right foot and drive far to close until it's the junction they require, then the brakes get stood on, all 3 lanes get crossed in 1 indicator flash to dive off down a slip road that is queued back onto the main carriageway causing lots of other drivers to slam on the brakes!

It's pretry much point your car in the required direction, cross your fingers and hit the loud pedal! However that seems to be the default everywhere now! That or halfwits self policing the roads by crawling along at 40mph everywhere!

I'd add the east side of Chester to the avoid list.
Just spent a happy two hours getting kids from school and up to Ellesmere Port for athletics.... and I know the back routes! The M53 from Chester to EP is fine (until you turn onto the M56) but the Vicars Cross junctions are carnage as everybody tries to head down the A56 which is now blocked in both directions.
Wife just called and she's stuck in traffic at Sandiway on her way back from Northwich.

R2 says motorway may be closed all night if they have to resurface it 🙁

BBC traffic website is not showing the true carnage.

Ooh, I'm actually quite glad my van was in the garage today having the brakes repaired*. I went on the train. Must have been a MASSIVE exclusion zone as trains through Helsby were cancelled from Chester!

*I'm not really, don't have the bill yet, but it's never going to be cheap.

Up and down it everyday with work, the sooner someone builds a teleport device between our warehouse and office the better

For once things worked out for me - had the afternoon off - safely at home by 3.30. A56 through Helsby and Frodsham is nuts.

M56 closed till 06.00 am tomorrow both directions, long delays all round Chester and Mersey tunnels, they now know the chemical is poisonous but not explosive, driver went through windscreen reports say, travel cameras show traffic still stuck from Hapsford towards Runcorn .

www.bbc.co.uk/travel , zoom in for cameras.

Yep the whole NW will be on melt down. Don't fancy being stuck on there all night though.

Commute from the Wirral to Runcorn so know that stretch far too well.

I went home via Liverpool tonight (over Runcorn bridge), so looks like I'll have to go that way in the morning. Just hope it's open again by tomorrow evening.

Do these plebs ever get prosecuted for driving so retarded that it shuts motorways?

Don't think th driver was at fault in fairness. Witnesses reckon he had a puncture or blowout. If that happens in a loaded road tanker it could be very difficult to control.

One of my work colleages finally got mini-bussed back to his car from Hapsford services at 11pm last night. Got back to Warrington at quarter to midnight!

Is that info up there ^ about the crash on the other side being caused by a driver going the wrong way to escape correct? 😯 Got to be a prison sentence for that surely.

A mate at work has to drive the m56, he says similar to 1981miked, drivers join motorway, swing across three lanes of traffic floor it then swing across 3 lanes just as their exit slip begins.

Sheppey bridge thing is ridiculous, just sending out more signals to the effect of drive like a **** and absolutely nothing happens to you. Seen so much ****tery lately, not just when riding but when driving around myself, drivers just doing epically selfish stuff, parking in the middle of the road when there is a parking spot <10m away, swerving around anyone holding them up for a picosecond into oncoming traffic, fone use aggressive driving...etec etc. Pretty sure they do it coz they know there are no repercussions.
