I'm expecting her to say it wasn't her she was in Pizza Express Woking. Apparently it hasn't been perfect. No shit!
"I will lead Tory party into next general election - Truss".
Hmmm. Wonder how well this one will age.
Pity her damage will harm and even kill so many before we get to it.
@FB-ATB Think it’s been reported she was meeting Sir Graham Brady - hardly urgent in national terms, but urgent in terms of her political future?
So what was the urgent meeting?
A meeting with Sir Graham Brady the chairman of the 1922 Committee.
hardly urgent in national terms, but urgent in terms of her political future?
Downing Street said that the meeting was ‘pre-planned’ rather than crisis talks, so not urgent at all according to them.
Downing Street said that the meeting was ‘pre-planned’
I imagine preplanned means "he called ahead".
I will lead Tory party into next general election – Truss”.
Hmmm. Wonder how well this one will age
Well Thursday is a good day to call a GE.
---
GB: we're having a vote on Friday Liz, we're getting rid of you.
LT: oh that's good of you, no, you're not getting rid of me.
GB: how do you think that'll work, you'll lose, you're mad if you don't see it.
LT: I'm having my own vote, HoC confidence vote on Thursday, so there's a choice Graham, they've got confidence in the government or they don't, won't play well if they change their minds by Friday will it? And since you've scheduled the v vote for Friday, you can't have another until when exactly?
GB: you wouldn't?
LT: I bloody well would, I think that's check mate. Now sod off, I need a bottle of vodka and some of coffeys spare lithium to calm my nerves, then I've this session to go to.
Nice to see she’s got her priorities in order then
She really is the continuation Johnson candidate. Just another narcissistic sociopath
Only one man can express the thoughts of the nation right now

Truss might be appropriate for a different situation but she is just the wrong person to deal with the current economy climate.
There is no situation for which the answer to “who would it be appropriate to make Prime Minister?” is… “Liz Truss”. That was obvious long before Johnson resigned, and anyone who thought otherwise… MP, party member… well… can we use the word “idiots”?!? And there is her party’s biggest problem… they chose her, and it’ll take more than burning all the policy papers dreamt up by her and her lover to turn that around.
Sir Graham Brady probably wanted to have a quiet word with her before she went into the Chamber.
And give her some friendly advice, eg "FFS don't say anything, just leave it all to Penny and Jeremy".
I'm not sure if she went AWOL when she gave that interview to the BBC.
Love to have seen how Malcolm Tucker would've reacted.
This is thoroughly depressing.
Her entire pitch for leadership - pro growth/low tax has been entirely dismantled and we are now in a situation where even the electricity cap has been pulled from two years to six months
And even this reversal is not enough to contain the damage she has done, there will be further cuts in spending, austerity 2.0 and an expected recession. Interest rates will go up because the tools to fix inflation are fundamentally broken.
There will be so much suffering and hardship caused to ordinary people by this. The stupid, hubris and narcissism of these people... I am beginning to think that a general strike is the only answer here, what else can we do? I feel powerless
Any bets on whether she will do (or be allowed to do) PMQs this week? I reckon she won’t.
I get the impression she is just being contained and managed whilst they work out the least worse way of replacing her, and to do so within weeks rather than months.
She's digging in!

I am beginning to think that a general strike is the only answer here, what else can we do?
Suggesting rioting on social media is an offence.
Yeah, a general strike.
Although organising a general strike would also be illegal in the UK.
“What I now want to do is go on and deliver for public.”
Needs a reboot. Deliver what? Who asked her to deliver anything anyway? Not the “public”. Just needs to resign.
Just needs to resign.
Nah she has made amends and I am sure the public trusts her to deliver. I am so sure that I think the best option would be for her to call a GE and lead the tories to a stunning victory.
Apparently one of the quirks of our constitution means she can decide to go to Charlie and ask for parliament to be dissolved by herself. Although it then gets a bit complicated about whether he should say yes or allow for the tories to show they could form a government with a new leader.
Nah she has made amends and I am sure the public trusts her to deliver.
Well they use evri and yodel because they're cheap so I wouldn't put much stock in who the public do and don't trust to deliver.
I trust Truss to deliver her own arse on a plate.
Why was the interview embargoed until 10pm?
They didn’t want to scare the kids
It's coming up to bonfire night.
Guy Fawkes thought it a good idea to set fire to Parliament.
Suddenly I feel he was 417 years ahead of his time.
Apparently she is leading the Tories into the next election....
The grift that keeps on grifting....
I think we may have us a sociopath or she is the electoral bullet magnet at the GE.
well… can we use the word “idiots”?!?
No - you are not allowed to call people who make stupid choices stupid, or idiotic things idiots. These people are VICTIMS of their own stupidity/idiocy. We are to expend more time/effort unsuccessfully begging them not to **** things up further for the rest of us.
I'll be amazed if she hangs-on until the end of the week. Gove has been very quiet - It feels like he's the logical choice (in this bizarre situation) as a "caretaker" PM.
One has to ask - At the point that a government is unrecognizable (both in terms of people and priorities) from the one that was elected, how do the people demand a new GE? Are demonstrations really the only way to achieve this? Or is there another constitutional button to press?
I wonder what would happen if all the other parties united in a call for a huge coordinated national-level demonstration - with a singular message: "General Election, now". Surely, given the mood of the country, it would be too difficult to ignore?

TBH it’s just a repeat of BJ’s last days,or any time he got caught out, hide and brazen it out and buy more time whilst you think of a cunning stunt.
I’m sure when I were a lad PM’s were more able to handle the interviews, nowadays they just don’t seem to bother anymore and want no chance to be questioned.
Why was the interview embargoed until 10pm?
Totally unsanctioned interview that she did off her own back, without the knowledge of the grown ups?
Here we go again…

…………and the cabinet is full of heavyweights……..
That would explain a lot. Ones who have had a few too many punches to the head?
Gove has been very quiet – It feels like he’s the logical choice (in this bizarre situation) as a “caretaker” PM.
I'll be fuming if that happens. I put a fiver on Gove taking over from BJ ages ago. The bet sat there unsettled for all this time, then Liz Truss came along and literally stole it right out my Paddy Power account.
Today's predictions?
- much hand-wringing and jostling for position post Truss from the cabinet and Conservatives, rather than the day job of running a country.
- more blinking from her and concern for her health.
- she clings on one more day.
Today’s predictions?
An in-depth interview on cbbc.
Kinda feel sorry for her, she looked ill.
Don't you f****** dare!!! Feel sorry for HER? She wanted the top job. She's lied, schemed, and manipulated to get it. Like the rest of the bastards in government she is in it for herself. She doesn't care about the misery she has knowingly caused hundreds of thousands of families with more to come. Look at the interview. She only cares about herself still! Feel sorry for her? Go take a long look in the mirror if that is how you truly feel.
I cant help but feel like we've all been played. Before you know it Boris will be up against Suella Braverman for the next PM slot, Braverman will 'step down' from the contest at the 11th hour and we'll all be glad Bozza is back at number 10 because it could have been so much worse.
The Telegraph: Sir Graham Brady confronts Liz Truss ahead of crunch 1922 meeting.
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2022/10/17/sir-graham-brady-set-meet-liz-truss-convey-tory-concerns-turmoil/
"Sir Graham Brady, the chairman of the 1922 committee, is expected to see Liz Truss within the next 36 hours to convey backbench Tory MPs’ concerns over the turbulence of recent days, senior Conservatives said on Monday night."
It sounds like this second meeting might be the one that forces her to resign.
According to the article Graham Brady "went to see Truss to tell her she did not have the support of the parliamentary party over the abolition of the 45p tax rate, and the policy had been ditched by 7am the next day."
And Brady "also went to see Boris Johnson to warn him that he had lost the confidence of his MPs. Mr Johnson resigned the following day."
For a Tory PM a visit from Chairman of the 1922 Committee must like a visit from the Grim Reaper.
I cant help but feel like we’ve all been played. Before you know it Boris will be up against Suella Braverman for the next PM slot, Braverman will ‘step down’ from the contest at the 11th hour and we’ll all be glad Bozza is back at number 10 because it could have been so much worse
Surely if the last 12 years have taught us anything, it’s that it will ALWAYS get worse with this lot
They can’t even stab someone in the back properly
Braverman stood waving outside the door of number 20 is inevitable I’m afraid
What happened to the discussion of the petition to have a General Election?
Graham Brady seems to be the hardest working member of the Government right now...
Surely if the last 12 years have taught us anything, it’s that it will ALWAYS get worse with this lot
I’ve now almost got a morbid curiosity to see just how bad it could get. Every time you think, that’s it, barrel scraped, they go and show you just how wrong you were.
An in-depth interview on cbbc
That made me laugh. Thank you.
What happened to the discussion of the petition to have a General Election?
I think Most Tory MPs have signed it now...
Braverman stood waving outside the door of number 20 is inevitable I’m afraid
Oh great, as if the country didn't have enough problems without the next PM suffering from dyscalculia.
Still, I guess there will be a legitimate excuse when the numbers don't add up.
An in-depth interview on cbbc
That made me laugh. Thank you.
Newsround had an excellent explanatory piece earlier comparing Liz Truss' last few weeks to a game of snakes and ladders.
Her 'apology' yesterday.....with an on repeat messaging that she was determined to stay in post to lead the country forwards. What an utter tool she is. That they had to bring a grown up (and it pains me hugely to describe Hunt as the grown up) to dismantle everything she has done in her sorry period in office to salvage our economy and she thinks a little sorry gets her a second go. I don't care if she's sorry. I care that someone who so fundamentally misgudged her first set of government directions is allowed anywhere near power ever again. She has cost us all billions of pounds and destroyed what was left of global UK credibility. There are many people in much lesser roles in the public and private sector who would be gone at this point. In fact I'm hard pressed to think of any role you'd get to **** up so badly and keep your job. If she was a normal humanbeing the humiliation levels right now would be extraordinary - like shotgun to the temple extraordinary. But she's a 21st Tory so concepts like humility, integrity and honour don't really apply.
2 further observations.....
One- she has done more in the last 40 odd days to further the cause of Scottish independence than anyone in history.
Two - I'm now 50 and it's the first time in my life where I've truly felt I understood how you can get to a point in a democracy where a coup d'état can feel like a best option left.
