Cleverly as I crossed the road earlier, I managed to drop my phone, result, 1 cracked front screen. Wonderful. It clearly needs a replacement, but who's used who? I've actually got phone insurance via my bank account, but never registered my phone with it (Doh!) so I could register the phone, wait a month and send it off, but if it's possible to get done at a reasonable cost, I'll just pay someone.
Has anyone used a 3rd party company or Apple to get one fixed?
Thanks
Not directly related but I had my 3G screen replaced by a local shop in Edinburgh. I think it might have been £60 or so. Reasonable job although dust did seem to build up behind it after a while.
If you are confident you can buy kits yourself. I didn't trust my butter fingers so paid someone else to do it.
and that's why I would never own one far to fragile !
Fairy easy job as far as I saw after stripping my wet iPhone 3 when it broke. I am sure there are u tube videos showing how.

Apple store replaced FOC my sons iphone 4 after he dropped it.
I used this place for a Windows HTC http://www.phonehospital.com/ and they had the phone for ages before finally admitting they'd mucked it up, and returned it an an even worse state than it was before. It was the alignment they couldn't get right, but even the screen they'd put on had a lot of dust behind it.

That all mobile phones then? Are you saying you don't have a phone or an iPhone?
Phone up the apple store nearest you, book a slot, go and be nice, I know of three people who I advised to do this who've had theirs replaced for free. Gotta be worth a try!!
I've a d30 case on mine;
If it's good enough for my knee pads then it's good enough for my phone.
Ok, first stop Apple!
Then when it's repaired, a nice protective case....
Have a blackberry so pretty robust, no smart screen.
Not to say I wouldn't like an iPhone etc but being clumsy and knowing that Id drop it is putting me off !

If you can fix bikes, you can fix iPhones. Just keep track of the screws..!
Right, not having been to the Apple store yet (think it'll be Monday before I can get to one) how do I know if a part I'm buying is OE rpoduct? I'd guess there are a lot of fake parts for Apple out there.
Having a look, play.com would get me a screen for £30, the fitting looks OK to do myself (I'm a faily good spanner monkey) but I do want the same standard of display when I'm done.
Thanks for the help so far!
The LCDs will all be the same resolution its the quality of the glass that can be poorer IMO less scratch resistant etc. Plus the little plastic surround can be higher so you get a lip at the edge of the screen.
Its an hrs very careful job first time, at least.
Ive done quite a few, as long as you keep track of the screws, i place them on a piece of white paper in the exact shape they came out of the phone youll be fine. The little washers that go over the screws can be a pita, but if the driver is magnetised, not soo bad.

Same here, well my daughters itouch, & my 4!
Just book a appointment at a Apple repair centre & chances are, you might just get an exchange for free.
strange question but whob do you bank with?
I bank with lloyds tsb and the current acc gives mobile insurance so it cost me just £35 to get mine done (that was front and back)
