On Saturday and Sunday my router drops its DSL and internet every few minutes. During the week it is fine.

Phone line problem or ISP? Somebody needs a talking to as it is sending my wife nuts who as a result is sending me nuts.

You would be best shouting at pigeons in the park for all the difference it would make. BT per chance?

we had similar with NewNet. Turned out to be the phoneline but we couldn't get anywhere with BT as NewNet were the customer for the broadband bit of the line that we were using (or something like that). Long story short, bugging the ISP and them bugging BT was the only way we got it solved.

Just spoke with the Tiscali Help (A-ha ha ha ha ha) Desk.

The non English speaker on the other end told me that their servers struggle at peak times and I that basically it was my tough titty. Not bad for £12.99 a month.

Does anybody use Sky Broadband? Are they any good?

Thought about talktalk, not great but when you factor in the free phone calls it's not a bad package. Works most of the time for me. I think most of them suffer with server outages at peak times, they're all trying to make as much money as possible plus unless you're lucky enough to be on cable the copper wires don't help.

Enjoy having to pay to get BT take over your phoneline again too if your moving from Tiscali. Bargain ISPs are a bargain for a reason.

A friend of mine uses sky. He's never had a problem and batters his for down loading music and porn. Virgin are great if you can get it. I get the full 10meg until 5pm ish when it drops to 3.5, it then goes back up to full chat at 10pm ish.

Still got my phones with BT so that shouldn't be a problem.

Virgin is good but you have to watch your usage on peak times if you don't want speed caps. I think their 50Mb lines don't have the caps but don't quote me on that. I am happy enough with my 10Mb one, just try to fit my downloads after midnight and before I get back from work. Support is OKish.

Swapped out modem cable for a shorter one. Some improvement. The Tiscali bloke said that signal strength drops as user numbers increase.

Still a bit poor if the server sh#ts the bed because too many people are using it.

I work for an ISP and hear nothing but problems regarding Tiscali, first thing i'd do is check how far you are from the main socket in the house and if possible use the main socket to plug your router into rather than using an extension

it is possible their servers need upgraded due to unforseen demand

also get a DSL check done on your line and see what speed you should be getting from your exchange - also there may be exchange works on this weeked thats causing you problems
