and to add to that, when getting down to more ideal weights lighter does not always mean faster. it's defiantly a balancing game, but this is where looking at the performance stats comes back in.it's simply not enough to say I need a certain W/kg to win races
Is it % fat figure that's important
Yes.. why not google for some images of different BF percentages see if you can find someone who looks like you.
You look like you are over-dressed there. Fleece and long finger gloves? It's a lovely day!
Not a fleece, its just a LS tech top and the only layer I was wearing on the top half.
I always wear gloves now after a riding buddy thought he'd be trick and activate the lock on his Manitou forks while still riding.
So he reaches down to the bottom of the RH fork leg to twiddle the lock-out, and BANG !, his hand goes into the wheel and the most violent over-the-bars I've ever seen happens in an instant.
Man, he went down hard into that asphalt.
It made enough of a mess of his hand as it was. Had he not been wearing gloves the injury would have been mahoosively worse and bloodier.
From that day forward, I've always worn gloves, no matter what the weather or the riding.
Those particular items are summer gloves anyway and quite breezy.

In case you feel the need to do something clumsy and stupid? ๐
Yeti - that guy on the left doesn't look as ripped as the guy on the right.. I look more like lefty now but with much less bulk of course. You can see some definition in my thighs and biceps as I stand there.
same guy is it not? before and after?
The weight's falling off Mr Toast, quite jealous, I could do with losing a stone or two meself. Unfortunately I am weak and love milky tea. ๐
Incidentally, any idea what I can make for dinner tonight? I have beef mince, lots of veg and a huge amount of greens. But not chilli, we had chilli last night...
I think it's a before and after Molly!
I only actually wanted the image on the right as an example of 10%.
Mrs Toast... cottage pie without the top... mince.
In both of those TSY? They look very different to me. From looking at pictures on fitness sites and google images I would say I'm around the 16% ish.
Edit: didn't read the replies. I'm less defined than the left image.
And cottage pie - use mashed butternut squash as the topping, better than potatoes!
Oh I see, the change of head angle fooled me ๐
I think I am 15% or so. If I can lose 3-5% more that'll put me at about 80-82kg.
Mrs Toast - got any root veg? You could mash them up for pie topping.
In case you feel the need to do something clumsy and stupid
Ha !, see, you do know me ๐
That and the fact that all of us, at sometime, are going to drop it
๐
Mrs Toast.
Make a Ragu source. Too yummy for words
๐
make what I just made - a spag bol. But I will have mine with quinoa or beans while the rest of the family will have spag.
Or make it a minestrone.
Yeah yeah I know it's ragu - but I've been accused twice of posting the most middle class things ever (on food related threads) and I'm not even a member of ANY class.
i think it's a bit misleading to look at Google images and compare body fat% pic's as some kind of indication to your own %.
EDIT: i was talking photos more than that^ But even still it's not indicative of what you will definitely look like.
I think I'm going to struggle to drop below 76kg ๐

Sat here at my desk there are few other metrics available ๐

Yeti come on. Why not a great big ๐ that you are pretty flippin lean. this is one battle you've already won, I'd be pretty chuffed about that if I were you.
How important is it to drop the milk in tea. I only have about 3 cups a day and with not more than a tablespoon of milk in each. Is that the reason that I don't seem to be losing any weight?
I have been sticking to the diet pretty strictly for at least a month and whilst the weight is coming down, I seem to drop about a kg monday to friday each week and then gain 0.8 - 1.2 kg each day off at the weekend.
Overall, I am not really losing anything at all and I am beginning to run out of patients with it.
The only faults I can see are 2-3 cups of tea with a little milk. The odd diet coke (OK maybe 5 a week) and some sausages or meatballs from time to time which I have dropped this week without any apparent effect...
Any advice?
Coz really I want to be below 75kg.
I said around 16%, which in my head means +/-3%, as a rough idea. I only wanted to know as an approximation, i.e. a fatty is 25% or above (male), and an athlete may be under 10%, and I lie somewhere in between. I understand that bodyfat is incredibly difficult to measure accurately, and in reality it doesn't make a jot of difference to me.
Why, TSY?
Sat here at my desk there are few other metrics available
Fair enough, I just know how big the margin of error is when measuring body fat %. Especially when using the scales, which is what I assume most people shown in the images have used.
Wasn't trying to knock peoples enthusiasm.
hmm, looking at those pics I would say I'm about 25% ๐
mines probably about 10-12%
Don't know, it just seems a better number. I also reckon it would mean my stomach was as lean as the rest of me.
5'10" and over 12stone... surely I can get leaner.
5'10" and over 12stone... surely I can get leaner.
You're not thinking at all right. 5'10 and 12st says nothing about how LEAN you are, just how much you weigh.
Question is, what are your goals? Race performance? Image? Climbing performance?
Or does your obsessive nature just need another project? ๐
5'10" and 14 st 7 lbs ๐ฅ
5'10" and over 12stone... surely I can get leaner.
do you not spend a lot of time in the gym? remember muscle weighs more than fat
Mleh, obsessive nature probably. 12 stone used to be fine as a target.
Climbing (rock) performance is probably my current challenge. Oh and a 5 min running mile, 25 miles in an hour on the road bike and sub 20 min mile swim.
Any advice?
Follow the plan properly?
There's a lot of rusk in a sausage.
TSY, get yourself a TT bike and a pointy hat and get down South Wales on the fast 25 mile course ๐
Even I did 56.46 down there ๐
Where's that Hugh?
*wonders if target should be 50min*
I'm not sure it helps to pluck random numbers out of the air.
Time yourself on some set routes now, decide what you want to focus on (not just randomly everything cool), get iDave to give you a plan for it and focus on that.
Most climbers are super skinny, and light weight helps typically, but there are some big climbers. When I was in the climbing wall attacking an overhanging 6a week after week, I started to bulk up noticeably.
Maybe your target should be a faster lap than me at SITS ๐
R25/3H or R25/3L they are slight variations on basically the same bit of dual carriageway.
Its on the A465 not far from Afan
A25/11 up near Derby is ment to be pretty quick or F1/25 over near St Neots
Better stop before this turns into timetrialling forum ๐
They're not completely random Mol. They're jsut steps along the way of all the things I'm doing at the moment, makes the training a bit more interesting. Lower weight is another side to the story.
What do those codes mean Hugh?
TSY - do you want to be lighter or leaner? Significant difference. And 75 is an arbitrary number isn't it?
Im organiser for our club (Corinium CC) 25 mile time trial 2nd July on the A419 @ Cirencester not far from you TSY?
You have to be a member of a CTT affiliated club though ๐
I have been binge eating carbs, chocolate and iron tabs all week and beginning to feel better - suspect i will feel a lot better once i recover from work stress too ๐ *thinks this is possibly not the thread for me to hang out in anymore as i intend to continue this for the rest of the season* ๐
There is a climbing route on the ceiling that i want to work up to...TSY that should be your challenge, was awesome watching the girl climb across the ceiling ๐
@ molgrips
Every TT course in the country has a code, the first letter refers to the area.
Not straight forward though 'R' stands for South Wales 'U' for West of England ๐
I've only done the Cardiff 10 mile TT.. I was still the fourth or fifth fastest on a normal bike tho ๐
DG - yesterday had a wobble.. binged on carbs all evening, and today I feel tons better ๐
I think you have to be careful on this that you get enough carbs. I am still finding it hard to get enough legumes in.
In 2009 I did 1.59.03 for a 50 which is the ride Im most pleased with, be a while before I get under 4hrs for a 100 ๐
Only done one and that was 4.23.19, going to have a go on a faster course in July ๐
They do TT's at Castle Combe race track (just outside Bath) if you want to do a (almost) flat one.
Car free as well ๐
*high 5s carb binge eating buddy*
Yup i agree....and for that reason i'm out for the rest of the season as i have lots planned that i need to be strong for ๐
