Can i only use the ringtones provided or can i buy them from i tunes and or use music of the ipod part?

If so how?

You mean iPhone 4 surely?

No matter how hard I try I can't get my iPod to receive calls never select a ringtone.

download a ringtone app, there's loads of free ringtones you can use too.
