Well as pointed out, 16 is legal.

Of course the lad who I worked with in the RAF many years back who pulled a girl who later turned out to have been 15 (although she was in an over 21 club at the time) ended up having to explain his side of the story to the police after the parents of the girl contacted them over their little angel's extra-curricular activities.

If he had only gone to 'The Grapes' instead he would have been ok as you can pretty much guarantee that no female in their is under 30.

Is this not a prime example of Social decay, the collapse of morality and social cohesion, I blame the parents, the labour party and climate change.

Is 15 nonce territory or just illegal? In a lot of European countries, the age of consent is 14 and in Vatican City, it's 12 (bit of a contradiction that really). In Austria in particular it's 14 but it's also OK if you are 13 and your partner is not more than three years older than you.

We had a discussion about this over dinner. Conclusion was its all relative. If your just 17 and your girlfriend is nearly 16, that's very different to you being 47 and the girl 16. Although thelaw might take the opposite view to common sense.

nonce = someone who intentionally seeks out a partner who is less than 16.

Joe, in your example the "statute" might well be unjust if it were applied, however, the "law" is applied by the police and the CPS with common sense and would IMO deal with the obvious paradox perfectly acceptably.

Lots of cases iirc involving people who were technically on the wrong side of the law wher common sense was applied.
