I loathe Piquet as a person but he was a pretty decent driver. You can respect that latter without liking him as a person.
Odd revelation in here: since it can’t travel by air, Mercedes are apparently looking at “months” before they can do an autopsy on Russell’s failed battery from Montreal. You’d think surely there must be facilities in Canada that they arrange to use to get into it sooner…?

or fly the facility/tools, whatever, to Canada?
Im guessing the battery cant be flown home due to suspected damage, defective or recalled lithium batteries are strictly prohibited on all aircraft. thats why it probably has to be transported by sea in some kind of special container in case of thermal runaway
I wonder if Merc have a special section in the factory for dealing with any battery issues hence why they will wait till its transported back rather than sending a engineer to Canada to look at the battery to determine the issue

Unless there is also trouble sending them by sea, that could be on a boat home tomorrow. IIRC it’s about 5 days to cross?
Yes, it’s fairly obvious why they can’t be carried by air, but I agree, the idea that surface shipping means months of waiting seems fanciful. Like you say, it’s hard to imagine it couldn’t be done in a week, a fortnight at most. I can’t believe they’d wait even that long to start diagnosing something that has the potential to lose them both championships.
Re: damaged lithium batteries and shipping...
BC Ferries will not transport damaged EVs off the local Islands, leading to severe frustration for Tesla owners involved in crashes and a long stock pile on the Islands. (I presume that's something to do with Transport Canada regulations).
And certain ferries, on certain routes, are designated for shipping dangerous goods (I presume mostly petrol tankers). So maybe it's these regulations which are delaying Mercedes...
