I sold an item which was purchased by someone in France. I sent the package by Royal Mail international signed for. The Royal Mail website showed that it had been delivered a few days later. Job done I thought...

Unfortunately the buyer claims not to have received the item and has put in a dispute with paypal. The buyer has been very reasonable in all correspondence, and my feeling is they are telling the truth. I have managed to get a copy of the manifest with the signature from France (no mean feat!), but the signature is just a squiggle and the buyer says it's not their signature.

I have put a claim in with Royal Mail but don't hold out much hope. Will I have to refund the buyer and end up out of pocket? It's £300 so I can't afford to lose it.

TIA

I'd tell em to nub off, although ebay always takes the buyers side for some reason. Very difficult situation.

Close your paypal account now! They can (and will) take the money out even if you don't have any funds in paypal it will come out of your linked bank account.

Unfortunately too late, they have already frozen the funds!

Arrgghh ok, contact royal mail and see what they can do. Did you pay extra for insurance ? Not sure if that'll cover you because its been 'signed' for.

I paid extra to insure it for £300 but I guess they'll say it's been delivered so it's not covered....

send the receipt from royal mail to ebay! i think this guy is taking the piss and has received the item and as far as royal mail are concerned the matter is closed.

Was it a verified paypal account/address that it was sent to?
If so, paypal should protect your cash if you have signed for delivery to that address, under their seller protection. At least that's the case in the UK.

It sounds to me like you've fulfilled the criteria of paypals 'seller protection' so I'd say as long as its a verified paypal address you shipped to your in the clear.
