so you're saying that coal is something that will gradually reduce in the future, but there's still a long way to go before the transition to cleaner fuels is complete? Who knew?

I suppose that the alternative is to admit that Thatcher was right about closing the mines all along?

You keep arguing with yourself, and once you've decided whether investing in coal instead of carbon alternatives is a good idea or a bad one let me know, 'kay?

And you keep making stuff up to justify your outrage - The only person who suggested 'investing' in coal was Obama with his push towards clean coal technology (what's that? oh, Saint Obama said it, watch the outrage magically melt away)

Trumps talking about making it easier and cheaper to dig it up, not turning it into an investment strategy

Trumps talking about making it easier and cheaper to dig it up

By basically saying to the coal diggers "Hey guys, don't worry about the environment, just get digging"

Bet you'd feel different if you lived on a Coal seam and you woke up one morning to see this outside you bedroom widow:

[img] [/img]

It's real easy to be an internet warrior and type all sorts of bullish stuff but in the real world, if you were having your life and health threatened by big industry you'd be the first to be shouting about it........

If it doesn't encourage investment, then all it is, is environmental vandalism to make mining companies and stockholders richer for a few years. Trump certainly claims it's an investment strategy but it's always an open question whether he's lying or delusional.

However extending the use of coal will inevitably slow the transition away and discourage investment in alternatives. An uninvestment strategy, if you will. Regardless of whether it actually does drive more investment, production and job creation in coal or not, it will disadvantage them in the successor technologies and industries.

So you can decide yourself what sort of stupid it is.

So Thatcher was right then?

it's always an open question whether he's lying or delusional.

Strange, because you always seem to believe the stuff you perceive to be 'negative' and disregard all the stuff that you could see as 'positive'

Challenge for you - name three successes that trump has had since he came to power.

Obama saw it as a stopgap, which was started by Bush. However, Obama ploughed ten times as much money into alternative energy sources, and made commitments for the US to be 25% renewable by 2025. But you keep wearing those Trump-tinged spectacles if it suits your agenda.

This is quite bizarre, because it's exactly the opposite of what just happened. I chose to take Trump at face value and suggested the most positive possible intent and outcome of his coal strategy might be true, you scoffed at that and went with exactly the opposite- that his public position is a lie and he actually doesn't want any investment in coal, and that he's seeking the most counterproductive outcome

Aside; of course Thatcher was right that coal was on the way out. The problem is how she acted on that. But since Thatcher's not president of the united states it's not that relevant.

Can I include things like successfully failing to fund his fence?

Make your mind up - you just said that extending the use of coal will inevitably slow the transition away from it, therefore Thatcher deserves to be praised.

I chose to take Trump at face value

Why would you do that if he's such a chronic liar?

Well, according to a recent CNN poll, half the republicans who saw Russia as an unfriendly state in 2014 think the same now (82% down to 41%). BOOM for TheDonald. 😀

There is a saying along the lines of "Never argue with a fool, onlookers may not be able to tell the difference."

Happily, though, that's not the case here.

The problem is that this thread isn't achieving anything. Can't we just ignore Chewfanbaliar?

So being consigned to history makes everything ok then does it? So if i pop round with a bulldozer and flatten your house you'll be like "hey cool man, we can just rebuild it and do some landscaping, no worries"

Sorry but when S**T happens to you, you'd take it just as badly as anyone else, even if they are saying, "oh don't worry, you'll probably have forgotten about in 50 years time".......

I'm actually not that bothered, I've no kids and won't be having any either. I'm just here for the show, and what a show it is!

Yes I'll be dead soon too, having enjoyed an extended period of peace and prosperity, so why should I give a stuff?

Because everyone else deserves the same, that's why.

Approval rating at record lows
http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/trump_administration/prez_track_apr24

At 51%, up from a low of around 41% a few weeks ago. That's not a record low, it's rising.

Friday, April 28, 2017

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Friday shows that 47% of Likely U.S. Voters approve of President Trump’s job performance. Fifty-three percent (53%) disapprove.

Back to falling again 🙂

Also looks like some great people get invited to the White House
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/04/30/us/politics/trump-duterte.html

Mr. Duterte’s toxic reputation had already given pause to some in the White House. The Philippines is set to host a summit meeting of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations in November, and officials said there had been a brief debate about whether Mr. Trump should attend.

It is not even clear, given the accusations of human rights abuses against him, that Mr. Duterte would be granted a visa to the United States were he not a head of state, according to human rights advocates.

FAKE BURN

"By essentially endorsing Duterte’s murderous war on drugs, Trump is now morally complicit in future killings,” said John Sifton, the Asia advocacy director of Human Rights Watch. “Although the traits of his personality likely make it impossible, Trump should be ashamed of himself.”

Some great stuff from Hasan Minhaj at the correspondents' dinner.

No one one wanted to do this so of course it falls in the hands of an immigrant. That's how it always goes down.

Zombie Andrew Jackson was famously unhappy about the civil war. But what did he do about it? Nothing. He could have ripped the [s]yankee[/s] oops no wait I mean the confederate armies apart with his undead powers. Zombie Trump won't let that pass.

Yeah but it's a pretty unusual "interpretation" that has Andrew Jackson getting "really angry" about a Civil War that started 16 years after his death. 😆

[img] [/img]

(I suspect this is yet another case of The Donald being unable to string together a coherent sentence and Spicer will be along shortly to explain that clearly Trump meant Jackson "would" have been "really angry" about the civil war and might have said "There's no reason for this" if he'd been alive).
