its status as a global power.

Going to war is not a vote winner in the US, especially among a sizeable section of Republican voters - it costs money and lives, and it doesn't provide the promised results. Trump is a populist, he is unlikely to pursue policies which aren't popular.

That implies he understands what is popular, the only consistent policy that him and the Republicans have had is killing Obamacare, they couldn't even do that. His wonderful plan, his amazing HC plan, his vision was ripping away healthcare from his core voters and massively increasing their insurance payments. He has no issues upsetting his supporters.

I've not seen enough to convince me he wouldn't like a nice little war just to stroke his ego and deflect from something else he has cocked up. A falkalnds would do him nicely.

How ever much I don't like Trump, I think this result will cause even more polarization in America.

God knows what he is likely to do now.

True to form Trump is blaming the Democrats rather than the Republicans who couldn't agree amongst themselves on how to screw over the poorest in American society.

Shout, shout, shout, fail, blame someone, shout, shout, shout, fail, blame someone, play golf. He's not done anything presidential yet, self serving policies, nepotism and hiring Russian spies isn't really what the president is supposed to do.

I work with a lot of Americans.

They hate Obamacare, if you earn $70k - $150k, you are much worse off.

As I understand it, it was a compromise to get it passed and it's an absolute mess.

Costs more per head than the NHS.

It will do and it's a product of not having a proper provision for lower income people, a quick check says 70k usd is 56k gbp. Perhaps these are some of the people who would be paying more tax in other countries.

Anyone else think he didn't really care about healthcare reform and is happy to be past it so he can give himself some massive tax cuts.

I'm still thinking he could be a Democrat plant though as the republicans are really making themselves look stupid

Not really - now he can't cut the healthcare budget there is less scope for tax cuts. In a rational world, of course ...

He needed this to do real tax cuts. Probably fair to say he cared more about making him and his friends richer rather than he cares about whether folk get healthier

My favourite headline so far
https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2017/mar/24/trump-obamacare-trumpcare-defeat

Trump tried to burn down Obamacare. He set his hair on fire instead

What remains is the fact that Donald Trump couldn’t close the deal. He is hoping everyone blames Ryan, and Trump is lucky that his supporters might do just that. The diehards, inhabiting his post-factual universe, will simply write Ryan off as a loser – they hated him anyway – and hail their king for the bounties he’s still promising.

All the above are none issue if the opponents could consider Hilary as the nominated candidate for their campaign ... it is that low.

Yet, the opponents* are showing concern for President Trump.

Shouldn't they just let him be so he fails rather than trying to tell him what to do? ... I wonder why ... bet he must be doing something right but the opponents* simply cannot accept that by sabotaging his plan along the way. 😆

Note: * mainly those politicians who back stab him and those who see the demise of their own interests (bet some are hiding dark secrets too) so fighting tooth and nail by releasing their drones into the population.

I bet it must a disappointment not to see President Trump as a warmonger.

He campaigned on destroying ISIS. In January he told his generals and security advisors they had 30 days to form a plan to beat ISIS.

His Secretary of State is threatening military action against North Korea.

You really think we won't see any war under Trump? I doubt it. Yes he is a businessman and the biggest business of all is the good ol MilitaryIndustrial complex.

Blow it all up, sell both sides the weapons to fight with, then when the dust clears award yourself the rebuilding contracts. Repeat. Business as usual.

We shall wait and see - he's been busy with [s]golf[/s] important decisions, so hasn't really had time yet. Though he has already authorised military action in the time he's been there.

In any case he's been far from a disappointment in so many other ways.

This might be a huge setback... or it might be a sign of just how good he really is underneath all that bluster.

He could have gone ahead and worked tirelessly, expended huge amounts of political capital to try and get the bill through. And maybe succeeded, or maybe just failed anyway.

But maybe he realised that it's actually a terrible piece of legislation, exactly the sort of thing people like Ted Cruz would support, would disproportionately harm his low/middle income supporters, and is exactly the reason he was selected as the republican candidate instead.

How do you catch a falling knife?

Now he's punted this into the long grass. In his own sweet time he can come up with something that does what he said on the campaign stump (perhaps just a tarted-up ObamaCare, who knows), build support for it among moderate Republicans and Democrats, and come out smelling of roses.

Sure it generates bad headlines *now*, but that doesn't matter. What's important is the final *outcome*, and the election in 4 years time.

So it might be that this health care saga is a sign that Chewkw's bet is actually pretty safe.

The election is in 4 years*

The campaigning starts in 2 years

(*3 years 8 months)

The Trumpster will be judged on what he does in the next 18months or so...

(I've seen the west wing, so consider myself something of an expert)

The campaign has already started his fund raising and his rallies have.
This might be a huge setback... or it might be a sign of just how good he really is underneath all that bluster.

Id give him a tiny bit of credit if he wasn't the main problem here, he could have read and analysed the bill before making the public, run the numbers, looked at who was likely to be in or out. Instead he rushed at it, saw it hit trouble, went and played golf.

I love the polling on this- yes, Obamacare is unpopular with a lot of people. But the Affordable Care Act is considerably more popular. It's almost like it's all a load of bollocks.

Yes it costs more per head than the NHS but so did the previous system and so will anything that replaces it.

Let's have an even bet with 50/50 chance on each side. i.e. 1:1.
Put it this way there is always risk of losing on both side tbh.

Not even Ladbrokes gives 12/1 odd. If you are that confidence with your information then you should not ask for crazy odds. All those talks about not betting for less than 5/1 ... ya right ... 😆

You see you jump to the conclusion too quickly with distorted information, now you have difficulty digging your way out.

£300 says President Trump completes 1st term easy how about it eh?

Please don't give me any excuses 1:1 ... no cat footing ... 😆

House republicans voted more than 60 times to repeal AHCA while Obama was president.
They have voted zero times under Trump and are now ready to move on.
They had seven years to prepare the ground for this - if they believed that their time would come.
This might be a huge setback... or it might be a sign of just how good he really is underneath all that bluster.

If he was good underneath the bluster he wouldn't be here having to pull a bill. Obama took a year preparing the ground to get ACA through. What we have here is a good example of the way ahead for Trump - he's got his first reality check that the presidency doesn't work like being the boss of his business empire where he could just bluff it.

But maybe he realised that it's actually a terrible piece of legislation

Why did it take until the point he was about to lose a vote to work that out? You could almost get the impression he has no idea what is in the bill, or the lack of support it has.

What's important is the final *outcome*, and the election in 4 years time.

Point of order, there's an election in 2 years time. Now Donny might not care much about that, but the people he has to work with in order to avoid repeats of this situation do, and campaigning has already effectively started for those.

I still don't think he will last 4 years anyway, but not taking a bet on that at 50/50 with somebody who is really confident he will 🙄

So he's thrown Ryan under a bus, seems Ryan tricked Trump into the whole thing and it's all his fault and Trump is great. Sean Spicer having a dig at Trump going golfing seems to be part of the continuing lack of support for the lying sack of orange peelings.

In the interests of fairness,O'Donnell does describe himself a a "European style Socialist" which to most Americans means Communist. His analysis ,however,is succinct, and is probably shared by most of Congress in private.

I think that's what O'Donnell is saying,he's a child who suddenly found himself in an adult world, and can't cope with it,so the toys go out of the playpen, and he starts a big sulk.

And,sooner or later, the adults are going to take his toys away until he behaves,or send him to the naughty step.

£300 @ 5/1 - ok.
If you're scared to accept - I understand.
You see you jump to the conclusion too quickly with distorted information, now you have difficulty digging your way out.

The conclusion I "jumped to" is that you wouldn't accept because you're not confident of a win. Is that not right, or are you accepting my offer?

1:1 Not 5/1. I have never offered 5/1. Refer to all my previous postings to see if I even offered that odd. Not even Ladbrokes offers that and you insist on that odd as a way to negotiate your way out? 😆

£300 for £300 fair bet i.e. 50/50 on each side. How about it eh.

The conclusion I "jumped to" is that you wouldn't accept because you're not confident of a win. Is that not right, or are you accepting my offer?
If I said I am not confident (which means a sure win for you) would you dare to bet 1:1 with me? i.e. £300 with 50/50 chance to say President Trump last the full term easy. 😆

Well he reckons Trump only has a 50/50 chance of making it for a full term.

Pretty damning when even Trump's true believers have so little faith 😆
