Hi all,

I want to get a magazine subscription for my mum and as I am overseas at the mo, can't borswe them in the local shop. Can anyone recommend me a mag for a woman of advancing years who likes a bit of gardening and outdoor/countryside topics. I have seen one called Landscape, and then there is the Countryfile mag. It does not need to be too highbrow, but also not too dumbed down, if that helps.

Thanks all,

Bratty

I bought Landscape after having chatted to one of their photographers. Half of the content is taken up with gardening, all beautifully photographed it has to be said and there was a couple of interesting articles on history and something else that escapes my memory. Overall though I found it rather twee although not dumbed down.

I suspect it is the UK version of a German mag called Landlust which is as you said very nicely presented, possibly a bit twee (the Germans can be very twee when they turnoff their 'work' setting) but generally well researched and nice to flick through.
If it is the UK version then I may well give it a go as long as it is not too clunky in the way the Germans can be....

OK bratty, it's now in front of me. 132 pages with, as I mentioned, plenty on gardening, kitchen section with a few recipes, country matters such as the countryside in the current month, history and heritage that included a feature on Stamford in Lincolnshire with beautifully photographed buildings. Certainly made me want to visit!

In the current issue if you subscribe you can receive two free gifts, namely an apron adorned with blue tits and a rather lovely looking flower jug made from carbon steel. Offer code is JEAA

Thanks... I'm sure she will.

It may give me something to read when I'm visiting too!

My mum likes the Countryfile sub I get for her (at least she says she does!).. I've had a thumb through and it seems to have a good mix of topics.
