Between the 12 months free Mcfee from sky running out and getting around to putting Nod anti virus on I somehow managed to atract a bast--d of a virus/Trojan which will not let me load anything which might be able to get rid of it.
I think it is a trip to the computer shop for them to get rid of it, what I need from someone is a ball park figure on how much it will cost me or maybe some way to get rid of the virus.

Cheers

Preserve anything of importance - photos/docs etc, then start again. Full re-install is the only way to be sure you've got rid I'm afraid. If you have OS discs then there's no need to take it anywhere.

Second installing AVG (or Avast).

Don't forget to remove completely any other AV software that you have on the machine as the new AV will see its directory of viruses as actual infections.

I had AVG and had a virus it could not get rid of. took it to the local shop and he said AVG 7.5 was the last decent one they done, he took it off and put on avast free copy. was about £25 to get it sorted

And your recommendation is to install something to get rid of it? Helpful!

Can you get on the web? - the McAfee site (or others) has a free scan. Use it to find the name of the Trojan, then you should be able to find how to get rid of it.

Try Trend Micro - they have a virus scanner called "Housecall" that runs online, and seems to be pretty good at picking things up...
