But the missus wants a cappucino thingy. Any suggestions under £175 brand new?
Thanks!

Nope, my B'day is looming so several people will buy together. Thanks to you, guys the laptop is working so well I'll need even more coffee as STW can't be left alone for a minute for the fear of missing a Ton's wind-up or the RudeBoy's war on council 😀

yeti guy, behave please! I said coffee not a techy gimmick, sorry you're so wrong (but you probably ride a Yeti which explains a lot to me 😉 )

If you're happy making coffee on what you've got, something like the Nespresso Aeroccino is a nice standalone unit that just heats/froths milk. Easy to use and clean, which is perfect if you won't be drinking the stuff. No dependency on any other Nespresso bits, just a good bit of kit.

I used to have a few Gaggias but my then GF binned them when I was away. She got dumped promptly on my return but they were gone nonetheless. I love coffee, all the process that goes into making it proper. It's like a SS bike off-road, not for everyone.

gaggia would be a good bet. thing is, you need a decent grinder too, otherwise the coffee machine is more or less worthless. on a budget, the dualit burr grinder seems ok (think you can pick them up for 65 quid or so).

Get a Gaggia Classic from ebay or somewhere for under 100£ and for another 100£ an Iberital MC2 grinder. Can't make anything but rubbish coffee from an espresso machine with a bad grinder.

Once you got that buy beans from decent places like Squaremilecoffee and Hasbean.

Do that and with a little bit practice you will have much better coffee than anything the chains make!

That's not so difficult especially that I have worked for most of the big ones 😀

click the link above and at the bottom of the page is a recon Cubika for £79, its worth a punt to enter the world of coffee.

I have a gaggia classic (10 years old) and its never missed a beat.

Has to be a Gaggia Classic - effortless style and I paid that for mine new after hunting around a bit - and it turned out to be my local shop doing an offer (Maturi in Harrogate)

I have the Cuisinart one above and the "matching" burr grinder, for £230 all in and a 5 year warranty its pretty damn good value.
I would have like a Gaggia, but they are not cheap.

Well depends what you consider expensive really, the Cubika and the Classic both make really good coffee for the price. Still prefer my Vivaldi S1 though 😀

From the ones I have had coffee from:

Gaggia Cubika = pants
Gaggia Classic = nice
Cuisinart = nicer

Cuisinart works better (the dosing system) and froths milk better. And it's cheaper.

for a recon at £75 the cubika is a good deal.

Druidh,

That stuff is just coffee flavouring, **** all to do with real coffee.

Therefore I have reported your post to the mods. 😉

If money was no object I'd have a bean-to-cup machine I think.

Have to agree, but my coffee consumption would go up even more.

I'd get a French maid to make me a cup then.
Very sadly, money isn't no object 🙁 and I'm down to 8-12 espressos a day (nights not incl.).
