Just read this - couldn't believe they're so irrationally risk-averse.

Yet Boris bikes can be guaranteed to be in good enough condition to get public liability insurance one would imagine.

Typical British bureaucratitis.

I can see where they're coming from, and they don't prohibit cycling, just don't advocate it on work time.

I can definatley see where they are coming from with this. It purely down to their liability in the event of an accident when occuring whilst riding on works business

A previous companys' HR tried to do the same with M/C's, luckily the head Lawyer was a 2-wheeler and we got it stopped before they could instigate it.

nwilko - our company does insist they see your licence, insurance certificate and service history / MoTs if you want to be reimbursed for car miles because they think they are liable... just to let you know

It's simply the extrapolation of the legal precedents that have been set.

Silliness, but there you go. Sounds like they have seen sense and reconsidered, so no problem.
