right. I have a western digital mybookworld NAS (sort of) drive

i know it's crap, lets not go into that

i've just got a livebox from orange and have successfully connected wireless and printer and adsl

now if i stick the mybook drive into one of the network ports on the livebox it doesn't see it. I've tried resetting the drive (supposedly runs DHCP) but to no avail. DHCP is enabled on the livebox but the only connected devices showing are my laptop (wireless) and the printer (ip 0.0.0.0). the DHCP ip range of the router is .10-.150 but if i try to access 192.168.1.10 i get nothing, i can however ping this address so it must be there

does anybody have any suggestions?

Not sure how clever the Livebox is, but have you tried a different network cable? Possible that you have a crossover one, but in my experience nearly all routers are capable of just dealing with whatever cable you plug in. What about resetting the drive to defaults? Shouldn't lose any data (in theory!!).

Also... you could try using a static IP address in the NAS, might show in the problem is in the DHCP. Subnet mask 255.255.255.0 and gateway 192.168.1.1 if asked. Is it in the yellow or the red ethernet port? If the yellow, you might need to turn off the digital tv option in the settings.

And I've just seen that you've tried resetting the drive - sorry!

what's the full DHCP range you use? 192.168.1.0/24? you don't make it that clear.

the printer ip is 0.0.0.0? that's not right. is dhcp being presented to wired?
presumably, 192.168.1.10 is your laptop, can you confirm that? (ipconfig from the command line)

are there options to connect directly to the livebox? do the instructions suggest you csan connect a device directly to it or is it DHCP enabled by default? I'm thinking a cross over cable from your laptop to the livebox to let you configure it.....
