[Closed] Wrap around sunglasses for mtb ?

For non-prescription I’d say just go with what she has/prefers as long as they fit OK with her helmet. Lots of sports specific ones out there, the main thing to consider I think is airflow and peripheral vision.

For prescription, I just got some Oakley Flak XL 2.0 with two sets of lenses. First set is single vision clear to grey photochromic - I’ll use these for running, night riding, etc too as I’m now at the point where I can’t realistically ride without specs. The second set of lenses are black varifocal for use riding but also driving etc. I have to say both are excellent, but not a cheap option.

Edit to add: I’ve always bought online but this time went into the Oakley store in Covent Garden, would recommend if you are in/near London. It’s well worth it just for trying them on etc, but for prescription go upstairs and see Janet, she’s brilliant.

Rad8 MTB Glasses tick your boxes

I bought some Rad8 glasses, think you might even get a discount as a STW member, but that might be my recall or just the time I bought.

Do various, fit as well as Oakleys if not better (all faces being different) but much cheaper so helps bike fun and excellent optics and tintyness.

Had cause to contact them at one stage and couldn't have been more helpful but would say the same for Oakley too as I had their glasses previously to the Rad8's.

+1 for Melon Alleycats. They’re doing prescription clip ins now too. Very comfortable, great quality lens and can customise colour choice too.

I don't need any correction for distance but I need +2 for reading the bike computer so I've been using these Bi Focal safety glasses. Similarly I've also got a pair of these from Rapid Eyeware.

I have a pair of Tifosi glasses which I like best but they have plain lenses. So I've taken a pair of lenses out of the voltX glasses and cut them so that they fit the Tifosi frames 😎😎.

I use Carnac bought from Planet-X, they’ve got a red film to them and actually are extremely good for biking as aren’t that dark. So although they block out the sun well enough, they’re not too dark. The suggestion of Bolle safety glasses is a good one too, we have some of those in the house and for clear ones they do the job nicely!

Been using my current set of ~£4 Crivit multi lens cycling specs from Lidl for a few years, great for the money!

Going into town now with those suggestions then probably come back and order online ! Thanks again everyone

Had Rad8 505 Photochromics for a while, changed for Melon Alleycats mainly out of curiosity. Waited for a sale on them.

I think the Melons go lighter than the Rad8s or perhaps react quicker - I've never found myself wanting to take them off in dark woods or late in the day.

For my face/eye shape the Rad8s fit a lot closer so not much air circulated inside the lens and they steamed up quite quickly on hot days. The Melons get more airflow but this does catch hot exhaled breath on slow hot/humid climbs which steams them up when the Rad8s wouldn't have, they clear quicker though. I can also see the nose piece of the Melons, thought it'd be annoying but I don't notice it when riding.

I ordered some 504s. Hope they manage the rainforest humidity as well as my ancient Oakley Jawbone.
