531, 853, Columbus true temper etc....
Lots of hard tails are coming out with tuned 4130 tubing - which is what ? (I assume it is just not Reynolds)
Cotic with the Bfe only have the seat tube (I think) as 853 - why not the whole lot?
Is 4130 still a good option - or a bit council house spec?
4130 is a chrome-moly alloy steel whereas 531 and 853 are chrome-manganese. You'll also find that higher specification tubesets are butted (thinner in the middle) which makes them a bit lighter, but also give a more 'lively' feel. The simple reason is cost - chrome-moly is a basic, industrial grade alloy steel.
Also worth noting that '4130' is a statement of alloy composion, where as any Reynolds numbers are effectively a brand name, compositing type of material, formation and treatment into one number.
You can't really compare them directly.
Okay - but Reynolds would still be see as the go to tube set?
or in the real world it doesn't matter ...?
i.e is the Ribble 275 with a full Reynolds front triangle like to give a better ride that the Bfe ?
