Amazingly it was actually Geraint Thomas that lead out Cav. EBH went way too early as the HTC leadout faltered but hats off for a great effort anyway.

What happened?
This is piss poor coverage for me, a tiny screen on the computer or HDTV, which I don't have. I guess no tour for me this year. I watched about ten mins then went for a walk. 🙁

Weird, Petacchi finished 30 seconds down.

Just out of interest..

1. ROJAS Jose Joaquin 119 pts
2. GILBERT Philippe 118 pts
3. EVANS Cadel 90 pts
4. CAVENDISH Mark 82 pts
5. HUSHOVD Thor 82 pts
6. FARRAR Tyler 68 pts

Green jersey anyone? Assuming he doesn't get penalised anymore.

Real shame about the huge number of crashes today (apart from the drug cheat getting held up more, that's good) but the last 15km was incredible. Great riding from Thomas Voeckler, proper hardcore.

What happened to wiggins?

Small crash midway through the stage caused him to change to a spare bike and then change back again to his original, once the mechanic had straightened out the bars.

Contador and Wiggins both got caught up in fairly insignificant crashes in the mid part of the race but all the GC contenders got back to be given the same time at the finish.

[edit]
Boonen had a particularly nasty crash and got in just inside the time limit.

Boonen looked sore. Nasty crash and then 50 mile run in against the clock = hardman, hope is ok tomorrow. Cav must be lovin it after getting pushed out the intermediate sprint.

Ooooooh, I had a lovely holiday with my folks in Val André when I was 12, watching this afternoon with my dad brought it all back. 😀

Have the organisers included more difficult finishes to try and mix up the domination of HTC?

...pretty much what Cavendish was saying in the interview afterwards. My, he is a bit cross about all that! Described the last 200m as 'proper hard' about three times in as many minutes. So that is 'bastid hard' for the rest of us then 😆

I think today showed that Cav can do more than sit on the back of a lead out, htc's policy of building the team around one man and one strategy is kind of limiting

I thought that Wiggo going to sky would be a bad move, but Cav going to sky could perversely be a good one

Cav showed last year in the tour that he could do much more than sit on the back of a lead out. How many stages did he win after Renshaw was DQ'd.

SBZ, true but people forget - couple of years ago he was interviewed for Inside Sport and a couple of times he mentioned that as a kid he dreamt of winning Paris Roubaix (the useless gaby logan missed this hint completely....) so maybe going to sky will result in him being a broader cyclist because they won't just forgo a GC contender in order to lay on a sprint train
