I have a meeting in Bolton on Friday. I'm flying into John Lennon airport. I'm getting conflicting advice about the best way to get to Bolton from the airport.

Can any locals give me some tips?

Get on to Speke Blvd after leaving the airport, continue to the A5300 Knowsley Expressway, take the first exit, M62 eastbound towards Manchester, leave at j11 and take the M60 N&E until you reach the M61 which takes you right to Bolton.

Don't bother with the M57/East Lancs Rd route as there are too many traffic lights unless you are going during morning rush hour in which case you want Speke blvd - M57 - East Lancs Rd eastbound - M60 - M61

If you are making the journey before 09.00 the traffic east of the M6 junction will be horrendous.

Liverpool may have it's detractors, but Bolton is one seriously depressing place.

Get from the airport to the Centre, then jump on't train from Lime Street to Bolton. Grab coffee and a croissant and marvel at the post-apocalypse landscape that is the outskirts of Liverpool. Yes - people really do live like that in the 21st century.

Let's be honest, you could show images like that from any large northern city these days. You could also have posted images of mossley hill or woolton etc, but they wouldn't conform to the stereotype would they...

Public transport.

To feed Surrounded's conspiracy theory further, I am travelling from Belfast.

Oh, and I might be a bit tight for time on the way back
