I've read a lot about people ditching the padded shorts so I tried myself but i got lot of pain in my sitting bones in the frost 2 rides
SQlab 611 here
Need to harden up sit bones so a few short rides first as per website instructions.
With a decent saddle I can - padded shorts make only a marginal difference decades of riding bikes most days means my arse is like a rhinos!
Nope, I ride a 611 and shorts but then either a) I'm a soft arse (doubt it after 40 years riding) or b) I ride long (also possibly true).
New saddles, shorts or not, take time to adjust to so it might just have to be a grin and bear it for a good few rides .. or wear shorts 😉

they say padded saddles are a PITA for long rides (and I do agree), but then I should wear padded shorts?
i don't get the logic here

The beach cruiser style deeply padded saddles allow too much movement and so over long distances will create hot spots, minimal support padded saddles with the padding in the correct place are much better. shorts have this minimal but correctly placed padding too so just as good*
*not all shorts are created equally though
I am not talking mattress saddles just proper ones with a bit of padding that is the correct shape / width for me. BOntrager SSR, etc If you have this then the padded shorts add little. A bit more comfort over long distances but sweaty when warm
What worksbest for pro racers is not always the best thing for leisure cyclists

then why no microfiber underwear? that won't move at all and i don't think a thin layer of sponge will make a difference even for a 150lbs bloke
just trying to understand here
It took a few months before I felt comfortable on the 610.
Not the SQ labs, but I have an ergon saddle and after a month or so of the odd bit of discomfort, I realise I’ve now had over a year where I’ve not even thought about how the saddle feels without padded shorts. I did muck about with the tilt a lot in that first month. 🙂
