I'm running a 12sp Shimano setup on my XC. The system (12sp) itself is great but the Shimano Microspline rear hub has always been problematic. I have to service it frequently but even so its started to creak. Any ideas on a non shimano microspline replacement so I can keep running shimano 12sp, maybe Hope etc.

Many thanks

I have DT Swiss 240s on my bike, upgraded from DT Swiss 350s, upgraded from Hunt's own (Novatech) brand. I've not noticed any difference between the 240/350 in terms of reliability; they've both been top drawer. The Hunts were a different story. I'd wholeheartedly recommend DT Swiss hubs.

+1 for DT Swiss hubs. Never had 240 hubs. I've used 350 hubs for at least 15 years. I did have some issues initially when putting a micro spline free hub onto an old 350 wheel with the whole freehub dropping off complete with the cassette when taking a wheel off. Not had that with newer hubs.

We’re running Hope Pro4, Pro5 and DT 350. All without issues. Would happily have any again, the Pro 5 is probably my favourite

Do you mean it's a Shimano-made hub?

You should find other brands with Microspline freehubs are fine.

As above, DT Swiss or Hope are difficult to look past.

If you have the sealed bearing Shimano hub. Bin it! Complete pile of junk:

The teeth (in the hub) are softer than the pawls. It can only end one way 😥. To be fair Shimano may have addressed the problem on newer versions.

What hub is it? Ive got two of the XT ratchet hubs if you need any spares to keep it going a bit longer. Such confusing hubs. No idea what was causing the issues in mine, nothing broken or worn inside. The freehub locked up on one, and the opposite happened on the other one. When they worked they were lovely. Almost silent and no drag.

I built the wheel onto a Bontrager rapid drive hub in the end.
