heading up to scotland from brum this weekend and was looking for a route to do on the way that's not too far off the M6 about 15 miles in length. All ideas appreciated

Off at J36, it's about 15-20 mins to Staveley, park there, ride Garburn, back to Staveley for tea and cake at Wilf's and a browse round Wheelbase bike shop then resume journey - you can head NE from Kendal and rejoin the M6 at J37.
