Let's say you wanted to build a set of road wheels, using lightbike carbon rims, whats the "go to" disc hub?

Don't want to break the bank, but I do want adaptable hubs and reasonably light...

Oh, and spokes... thoughts?

Ta, I'm a bit clueless on road stuff 👍🏻

DT 350. Ask LB for a ready built quote, mine were cheaper ready built than sourcing all the parts. Build quality is very good.

Yep, hard to beat 350s for a ‘jack of all trades’ hub. 240s if you’re feeling flush.

Tune or Chris King for pimp. Available in different variants rather than specifically adaptable though.

Spokes: DT Competition are excellent, Competition Race save a chunk of weight for not much money, Revolutions are even lighter. Aerolites or Sapim CX-Rays are a bit stronger and vastly more expensive. I rate the Competition Race, but have wheels with all of the above.

My DT 240s are nice and I know they are durable.

My Dura Ace feel more ‘special’ but will require greater care and attention than the DTs.

Both are great but the Dura Ace only come out in nice weather.

I've gone 'Stick with what you know' and have bought some RS4s. Not super light but tough and easily adaptable.

DT 350’s have same internals as 240, weight a little more and cost a LOT less.

DT 350s with the 54t star ratchet upgrade would be a great choice.
For spokes, Sapim CX Ray are meant to be the best but cost a lot more. The CX Sprint are used in the 404 firecrest wheels so could be a suitable cheaper alternative.

Pretty much what njee said, but I'd go King over DT if I had the money, purely as I hate replacing bearings - they shouldn't wear out!

I'd also throw Sapim D-lights into the spoke mix. They're stronger than DT Revs and only a few grams heavier over a wheel build.

If you're looking for light wheels and dependent upon what size tyres you're going to be running, I'd also consider 29er carbon rims. They're often rated to 70Psi and are suitable for 32mm+ tyres and come in at around 300g.

This would give you a calculated weight of around 1.325kg for a 24h front and 28h rear build on CK centrelock hubs. You can probably add another 250g to that if using road carbon rims that aren't made by ENVE.

I wouldn’t bother with a 54t ratchet upgrade, it costs a fortune and not needed. All Roval CLX series wheels only have the 18t and it’s more than fine.

Daffy - Mrs BS has light Bicycle 38mm deep 22mm wide clincher 24h centrelock DT350 with DT Aerolight Weigh 1420g, cost £700 all in.

Is that with Aluminium nipples?

If that’s the case an you were happy with 24h and aluminium nips, you could probably get it down to sub 1100g

That’d be a really nice climbing wheelset.
