....or get someone else to wash your bike for you (blows a kiss to Onzadog).

Bunnyhop that cake sounds fabulously virtuous. Bet it tastes exactly the opposite!

Longest pootle thread ever? There must have been a good dozen punctures, every descent claimed 3 or 4, even the linykyup nondescript ones.

Was great to have so many new folk along, cheers all.

Edale at the deepdene? free layby 815 faff, 830am start if anyone else fancies it.

It would feature either Beast, screaming DH/fairholmes then Hagg farm descent back

or Mam, Cavedale, mam old road then the chute back.

So how come 37 bikers riding through the Peak 2 and 3 abreast ,completely hogging the trail at speed, leaving no option for walkers but to get off the trail, leaving gates open on a sunny summer Saturday ok but when a couple of guys riding down Ben Nevis they get flamed?

edited to make more sense....

we didn't hog the trail, had walkers cheering us on or praising how responsible we were in checking the trail first, admittedly left one gate open (which was picked up by our responsible back markers), weren't going at speed where we met walkers without having spoken to them and worked out their feelings on the matter (my job), and generally were responsible all the way.

I would never lead a ride where people thought doing that kind of thing was acceptable and as such I'm proud of the pootles and the attitude of the riders who come on them to other trail users.

With a big group its a challenge to make sure we don't thoroughly piss people off; but with the right group and attitude from people there, a big group can turn from a problem into ambassadors for mountain biking.

The walkers who we held the gate for on Dirtlow Rake we very happy to see us all out and laughed and joked with everyone. The walkers on the sunken road said we were mad but it was great that we were out having fun and that they enjoyed watching us. I don't remember seeing any others. Maybe I was too busy flying past them laughing manically. Oh no, that's right, I was further up the trail telling the riders to slow down or stop when there were walkers (having scoped it first by 'setting up a camera spot'), or they weren't there.

Seconded.... Despite all the laughs and banter etc.... Even the silliest of us..mainly me Said hello to all the walkers and slowed down.... In fact I only saw 4 on the trails we were on the whole time... And they all smiled and said hey. Well organised, well led.... Well well well... Sorrybunhad a bad experience on Nevis though... Must be a bummer

Strangely, I will be running from Edale about 8am on Sat. I will wave if I see a big scary gang of mountain bikers chugging haribos. Feel free to wave back if you see someone running like a flid in a nike hat.

Yesterday I got to speak to Chris, the intrepid cinematographer of the video, and contrary to my expectations, he told me that the effusive and happy support of nearly all the walkers totally made the event. He said that perhaps he should have left in the 45 minutes where they were waiting for others to get past and amicably chatting with them. He assured me that further missions of biker/walker diplomacy will happen there in future

Saturday's Pootle was really well organised and the values of being "good ambassadors" for MTB were certainly running through the whole group. Yes, we had a lot of fun but we also played well with other users of the trails.

Not only all that but we also raised a good amount for the local mountain rescue!

Can't believe this 'conversation' is even taking place! From what I've seen - which is enough rides now- the pookers would make sure they took routes that were 'ok' for the majority! They Lurve their MTB'ing but know that they need to be keeping the locals happy in return ! One can't shout at ignorance - one can only educate!

Let the pootles proceeeeeeeed........ ๐Ÿ˜€
