I think it looks pounding . Decent weight too. But...! They are seriously expensive now, this side of the pond anyhow . More than Ibis, who I have always had down as the dentists brand.

It looks great, and I'd love one to replace my Patrol, but that price is very hard to stomach. Possibly be interested in an alloy one of they do them (they seem to follow by about 6 months or so) but even then the frames are usually about £1800.
When a full build of a Privateer with nice parts is under the frame alone cost of that, it's unfortunately not an option for me, especially as I'm not bothered about carbon. Which is a real shame, as I loved my mate's mk1 alloy Sentinel.
Looks incredible.

Yeah, I have been waiting on a new sentinel for ages and this one looks absolutely brilliant, BUT this is the thing. I'd love to be able to demo both the sentinel and the privateer back to back to see the difference in how each of them ride.
Looks good, would like to try one. Having recently bought an LT 29er luckily I won't be tempted.
Sadly it seems that's just how much carbon frames from "premium" manufacturers cost these days. Not just Transition.
I wouldn't have thought the Sentinel and Privateer will be very similar. The Privateer is a full on Enduro race bike whilst the sentinel is being described as an all-rounder, more like a big trail bike.
Reception around the interwebs seems to be somewhat lukewarm.
When it came out the MK1 Sentinel was meant to be an enduro LT 29er. But since then that market shifted and some people were expecting the new Sentinel to shift with it. Instead it stayed more or less the same, and Transition seems to be making quite a marketing effort to promote it rather as an aggressive AM all-round bike. I reckon I have more interest in that category, a good versatile AM bike you can pedal around and then race sometimes, like the Ripmo, Bird AM9, Ransom, etc.
I liked that they kept the geometry nearly the same, bar some corrections. I shows they are not trying to throw us incremental mm's BS, they seem to genuinely believe in the concept they created for the MK1. Also the added progression seems to be a good theoretical upgrade, even more so than the 10 extra mm of travel.
The deal breaker for me is the material. Reliable, reasonably affordable aluminium frames have been staple of Transition for years. Many of us either don't want to spend the money or simply don't like carbon frames. I for one have zero interest
PS: I'm willing to bet they're either updating the Patrol as a 29er or just releasing an all new LT 29er model
i'm sure an alloy frame will be along in due course.
i think there's some merit in carbon front/alloy rear end options as a halfway house. doesn't seem to be a huge benefit to carbon rear ends vs the cost, especially for heavier, longer travel bikes that are going to weigh a bit anyway.
I really like the look of that sentinel, i tested the previous version before buying my rocketmax and it just didn’t feel fun, good but just kind of meh! The reviews suggest that’s changed a little. More fun and poppy
It is big money though!
Cascade have a link at prototype stage that increases the rear travel of the V1 Sentinel to 157mm.
the sentinel is being described as an all-rounder, more like a big trail bike.
With a 63.5deg head angle though.
It'll be a fine enduro race bike, I'm sure.
Not that keen on it myself, the frame looks a bit retro "concept car" IYKWIM, and then there's the silly pricing and the fact that they claim it's "Toray" carbon but don't bother telling us the grades used - because obviously MTBers wouldn't care about such things when ponying up £3k for a frameset.
Looks lovely, although far too much bike for me.
I might be interested when they update the Smuggler though...
I'm sure it will. That doesn't make it similar to the Privateer though
I'd like to try one - the sizing of the old bike was great, but as various reviews alluded to, it's ability to blow through its travel was spectacular. I've not ridden a bike before that managed to blow my feet off the pedals with such consistency.
Bit more travel, bit more progression to the suspension, both of which make sense to me, given it's intentions. It might not be an outright race bike compared to some things out there now, but it's probably more than enough bike for the majority of people.
3 grand for a Transition frame however. Ouch.
Looks lovely and all but no alloy version is a deal breaker for me.
£3000 for the frame is daft, that's Geometron with EXT storia money
£4300 for the NX build is better, especially as it comes with Lyriks, codes, decent wheels etc.
If they do the same build on an alloy frame at 1k less I might be interested.
EDIT: Apparently an alloy version is on the way too...
The one PB reviewed seems great, and good weight for a long travel 29 we
But, GX just has no place on a bike that's going to be ridden hard.
I know sram offer v good OEM shock/fork/drivetrain deals & apparently much easier for mfrs to deal with than shimano but, gx/nx just too flimsy ime followed by weeks & weeks of waiting for warranty , rather have slx anyday or even 10sp deore with subrace 11-46 than gx or nx, spend much more time riding & less waiting for warranty.
Too expensive and an availability problem? Try the Stoke Sentinel, every Friday, only 80p. Works best in the dry, tends to get a bit mushy when wet.
You might only afford Deore after shelling out for the frame anyway.
It is nice, just watching the pinkbike review now.
I remember buying one of the very first Transition frames to come into the UK, some bloke was privately importing them.
White Dirtbag with Romic shock. Think it was £699. Spent my first semester student loan on that plus some RockShox Boxxers and spent all year slamming it down Wharncliffe instead of going to class 😂.

But, GX just has no place on a bike that’s going to be ridden hard.
Not expensive to swap in an SLX mech and shifter though. Or even just a mech, if it's true that they use the same pull now.
4.3k for an NX build with a base level Lyrik and some really basic kit is ok?! Jeez, not in my book. That's Specialized pricing!

its a bit pricey but latest transitions have never been cheap , for that money Id want Fox suspension, just because
@tthew I got ya...I thought this was a thread about the people of Stoke not getting their daily dose of Sentinel
tthew, +2. Thought it was a covid19 casualty when I saw the thread title, phew!
Is it really that expensive Vs similar bikes from Santa Cruz, Specialized, Yeti, Mondraker etc?
It's got a lifetime warranty too which is a step up from what they used to offer...
Like the look of it.

No, because you've just named all the most-overpriced brands.
😛
I’m sure it will. That doesn’t make it similar to the Privateer though
10mm travel and a bit shorter on the reach (surprisingly short medium), but short seat tubes so you could size up.
It's pretty similar in the grand scheme of full-sus 29ers.
Of course the ride feel might be miles apart, but you can't really tell that from the geo table or pics.
£3000 for the frame is daft, that’s Geometron with EXT storia money
why the **** would you want a geometron.
cheaper than santa cruz carbon
Too expensive for me though.
Looks nice enough, just like the new scout, they do seem to be getting bunched up though, at the enduro level, especially with the tweaks folk are putting on them.
As for price, they're another boutique brand to be honest, a lot of money to get this bike at a decent build standard, not santa cruz prices, but when you look at the likes of a giant reign or nukeproof mea, which do just as well, it's quite a lot!
I don't think the Sentinel even intended to be similar to the Privateer. The later is aimed at privateer enduro racers (who would have thought...), the new Sentinel is being marketed as an aggressive all mountain, versatile bike.
Regarding price, it depends a lot on where Transition wants to position itself. It used to be an everydays man brand, maybe they're trying to move upmarket
Well I made an enquiry, a friend runs a shop that sells transition. Sold out until next year! great!
