Michelin cross climates… for a gravel bike

Switched to 700x45 Pirelli cinturato all-road this summer as I realised I was using my gravel bike 80% on tarmac at the moment. They’ve been great, until I went out a couple of times this weekend in the wet and they were frankly terrifying.

so I’m looking for a “gravel” tyre that’s got big volume, suitable for occasional actual gravel, but mostly used on road but in the wet. the roads being country lanes through woodland so are an absolute mess of wet leaves, mud and potholes.

These roads are out my front door, hence the car has Michelin cross-climates on and they’ve been a revelation. Will a regular gravel tyre with a bit of off-road tread deliver the same magic, or any other ideas?

I’m not sure much will grip on wet leaves, they’re probably the worst surface condition short of ice.

my Goodyear connector ultimate have been decent all year rounders.

I second airvent’s comment.

Put a pair of Goodyear Connector Ultimate (700x40) on my gravel bike last year and they have been very good.

I really like Continental Terra Hardpacks for what you're describing. I run them on my Swift. Sadly they only come in 650/700x50 though, unlike the rest of the Terra gravel line (if they did 700x40 I'd have them on my Trig).

Continental Terra Hardpacks

Is the answer I would give.

Keep the pressures as low as you can without bouncing or rolling the sidewall, and you have great grip.
