I'm pretty sure most of the people that turned up would be delighted to go for a ride with Obree instead. Not sure of any decent rides from Paisley though....
I was helping out at charity ride in Marin where Lance, Robin Williams and Levi Leipheimer were supposed to be riding. All were no shows.
Riding with Obree would be good to, although he's not as 'user friendly' as Lance.
Plenty of decent riding from Paisley Trolling Zoo Fighter, up over the braes and you're into the countryside very quickly.
So anyone go then, according to the bbc site it was a 90 minute ride and 300 folk turned up. Be good to know how it went.

One of my mates met Obree on a shop weekend ride - said he was a great bloke. Apparently he went up Box Hill at a speed that made my mate (an ex-international at a different sport and no slouch) think that he must have been riding a motor bike disguised as a proper bike...

What an amazing ride this must have been Obree and Armstrong in one place. 300 riders; bet Armstrongs a popular charectar with the traffic police after creating that rolling roadblock.

It was awesome - 28 mile loop, with Lance chatting away to anyone who was nearby him in the pack - decent guy, he didn't have to do that -)))

Gary - yeah, out through Howwood, back road to Lochwinnoch, up to the roadhead roundbout, back to Howwood, up the Braes, down through Foxbar and back to Paisley. bit too fast for me though averaging 16.8........
I see at least on BC National Champions jersey at the front, someone obviously thought it a good chance to get that out!
Good effort on his part though, quite random! Imagine if one of the fan boys had brought him down!
That was excellent. Bit chaotic on the way out, and a bit hard going on the commute Singlespeed MTB though.Lance came acros really well and props to him for doing this.
Spoke to Mr Obree for a bt as well, he only had a 55t chainring on today, well stretched out superman style on the bike as well.
He was saying his track bike, one with the 68t ring, rides great on the road but hasnt performed well on the track, wished him the best for the Hour if he goes for it.
Told Lance to pick up a bottle of Buckie whilst he was in Paisley, dont think its banned by the UCI yet
interview for local radio he told them that he is in town for the U2 concert tonight at Hampden
That was frankly awesome. Riding in a bunch of 300 at the start was pretty scary for a start. Managed to hang on to the front bunch and coasted past Lance on the top of the Glennifer Braes. Had a really surreal moment when I looked over my right shoulder and saw him there on his bike. He then drew level with me and we chatted for a wee while. Sanny had a chat with him too. What a top bloke. He didn't have to do that - he could've gone out for a ride on his own or with his couple of mates.

That was amazing. He had time for everyone, really cool. I went by him on the climb out of Howwood up to Uplawmoor.
His expression was pained, like I'd given him a horrible flashback to Alberto's attack up Arcalis last month*.
He came level with me on the Glennifer Braes descent and we had a chat for a bit. Lovely fella, seemed to be really enjoying it.
* statement may not be wholly true
It's quite amazing. I can't imagine another sport where one of the greatest of all time would invite the general public to come and join them for a run/ kick about/ cycle etc
I cant see Tiger Woods tweeting to see if anyone's up for a four ball in the morning!
Sounds like all good stuff folks, soooooooo pissed I couldn't get along.
The ride was totally brilliant, almost surreal. I have to admit I'm not a huge Armstrong fan, but to not have gone would have been madness.
I took the car through from Edinburgh, for fear of the trains being packed with bikes ... and the completely useless call centre I ended up at when I tried to call and book a ticket this morning.
There was a great atmosphere before he arrived, with everyone waiting in the road to the hotel for him to arrive. Lots of great chat with the locals. When his car finally arrived, he hopped out, seemed to be building his own bike, and did interviews at the same time. There was even a mini media scrum.
Lance seemed to spend quite a while talking with fans, shaking hands and doing the good media thing, then we all headed off, taking up the full width of the road. SUCH an awesome experience, as I pedaled along on my commuter.
I got dropped after about 30 mins or so, but still smiling about it. GPS track here and a few photos here.

Its always nice to go out with Mr Obree aswell as hes a top guy too.

i used to be in a mountain bike club with Obree and rode with him often, when I asked how do I get better at climbing he said get a 60 tooth chainring on and go and ride up and down Dundonald hill, he said but its better on a fixy. Aye right! Its not a really big hill but ma wee legs could'ny even move a 60 let alone pedal up dundonald hill. he is a really nice bloke though, roumored to have legs made from girders!
what a top bloke, wish i coulda been there. Hope some of those Lance-haters will think about that a bit.
A great if small photoset ml. This one is great and you could see this anywhere all over the country on a sunday morning i.e. some bloke getting his bike out the back of his hatchback. He just happens to be 7 time TDF winner and surrounded by photographers and fans.

Totally gutted that I didn't just get out the office and go. Had I known it was just a short ride I would probably have ridden over to Paisley.
Like Pistola and Scotty John said, what a bloody brilliant day for my birthday. Went into work, had a look at STW and told my boss I had to go as I had the chance to ride with Lance. Fortunately, he understands my need to ride my bike. Turned up, got rained on, rode with a mob of 300 which thinned out by the time we climbed out from Howwood. I have to say the way Lance dealt with everyone in such good humour and willingness to chat with anyone who wanted to chat with him was very impressive indeed. It was great to see cyclists rule the roads for a change.
For the nay sayers who weren't there and want to have a go, there's a wee Glasgow phrase for you....get it up ye!

Soooo pissed off I missed this, am working on Glasgow, but no bike and hadn't been checking STW / Twitter much so it passed me by. Gutted, if I'd a heard earlier I'd a driven home got bike stuff and come back down. Shame he's into U2 though.
