I recently bought a used ksi 900 dropped post and the remote cable is as rough as a badger back end, so much so that it will only operate one way and will not retract.
Would i be able to use a regular brake cable/gear shifted cable.

My only concern is the nipple on the end that fits in the emote lever is very small.

Are the nipples swaged onto the cable at the bike shop or are they pre assembled units that are available in differing nipple sizes and cable lengths?

Cheers.

A standard gear cable will work.

I bought this and it was perfect.

Cheaper ones might work just as well but £6 for a pair of PFTE coated cables seemed OK to me.

Make sure the lever under the seat isnt gummed up either, ive attached a rubber o-ring to mine and a bolt on the seat clamp to help it release properly.

Yeah, I only changed the inner but it was enough to change the remote from being dead sticky to nice and smooth, YMMV.

Liberal spray of GT85/WD40 down an old gear outer will give it a new lease of life, and a new gear inner and it will be right as rain for a while longer.

It's a gear cable. No worries. Mine has a SHimano one fitted.
