Currently I have Deore HTII cranks with a Goldtec ring. But the tight spots are annoying me! I have a technique which centres the chainring on the spider well enough. However, it always slips and leaves me with an annoyingly slack chain after the first ride, even with the chainring bolts snugged up tight as. I have vertical dropouts and an EBB (which is not slipping). I think the poor fit between the chainring bolts and the spider holes is to blame. I have another set of (alu) bolts, they fit much more snugly and centre much better, but they're too long. So is this a good excuse to go for an Uno? I'm assuming they don't have this issue due to the spilned spider and presuming the chainrings are sufficiently round!

i did have the same problem a while back on an old ss so i used the longer bolts with some b and q washers at the back so i could get them tight. id still like an uno tho 😉 or white industries actually
Yeah, I did have some washers with my old (thinner) chainring.....why haven't I tried that, or did I? Maybe I'll have another go....

I've got an Uno and run a Surly rear cog and still get tight spots, decided its just one of those things and no longer worry about it.
But get the Uno anyway, feels and looks proper singlespeed!! 😀
I have an uno now but had the same trouble as you for a while... Try adding some threadlock between the chainring and crank... once its dry it wont budge.
I've even got a pot of threadlock handy, thanks for the tip
