Hi

I've just bought some pre-bled deore 595's, but after fitting them the hoses are way too long, so I need to shorten them. Does anyone know of some guides on t'internet on how to do this?

Was thinking about just taking bike to LBS and getting them to sort them, but don't know how much a job like that would cost, think evans charge £25 each end, is that a decent price?

Martin

With shimano its dead easy.

1. remove the pads
2. pump lever 2 - 3 times
3. carefully cut hose with a stanley blade at LEVER end
4. fit new olive and insert
5. screw up
6. open reservoir cap
7. push pistons back in with a ring spanner
8. refit pads
9. done

what about the fluid in the hoses? do I not need to drain it all before cutting the hose?

Good guide here with photos. Shimano are very easy though, just don't forget the new olive and little pipe thing.

Excellent. Didn't think it was an option to cut the hose still with fluid in the system. 🙂

Cut the hose with fluid in and then you shouldn't need to bleed. Don't forget to buy the replacement olive first thou.

Have a look in the box.. They should have come with a spare olive and barbed insert

Yeah noticed there was some extra bits and bobs in the box.

Is it easy to get the olive and barbed insert onto the newly cut hose? lots of people seem to be using a vice to clamp the hose, which I haven't got.

I used the two yellow brick things and then clamped those with some vice grips then put the edge of the yellow bricks on the edge of the bench and tapped in the insert. Bodgetastic, but all good.
